Rider Pride
What is a football game without the watermelon helmets and 32 degree temperatures. This is at least 45 minutes prior to game time. As summer holidays go, this year has been so awesome. We have lost ourselves in exploring Saskatchewan and touching base with so many people from our immediate and extended families. One thing that we have been faced with on occasion is a lack of internet access. Of course this does not help us with getting the blog posted in a timely manner. However, for the past few weeks we have indeed had internet access. Why aren’t we up to date with our blog? We have become immersed in the experience of being on holidays and having no deadlines, commitments, or schedules. Not a bad deal…slowing down and enjoying the moment.
After our week at Otter Lake we returned to Saskatoon. Aside from taking care of some banking and other trivial things it was a rather uneventful week. We were saving ourselves for the Rider game on Saturday against the Eskimos. It was our hope that the Riders would avenge the embarrassing meltdown that occurred in Edmonton the previous week. So along with hundreds of others we headed down the highway to Regina to attend the game. It was fun driving from Saskatoon to Regina because most of the traffic on
Hot in Here
Pre-game warm up...it going to be a hot one. Can we make it without melting? the highway was other people driving to the game. Every time anyone passed us, we drive the speed limit because we’re not in a rush anymore, I would pump my fist and cheer, “Go Riders.” Of course most people responded in some manner. My favorite was the people who rolled down the window and waved their Rider flag.
Upon our arrival to Regina we stopped at Gary and Gina’s to pick up our vouchers for the game. Gary had very graciously offered to arrange a discount for our tickets AND host us while we visited Regina. Arriving at the game was quite an experience for Owen and Benjamin. 27,000 people trying to get to their seats in 32 degree weather isn’t something that happens in Eastend…EVER. Sure the 32 degree heat happens, but the crowds were something all together different. I hadn’t been to a game for at least 20 years and given my fear of large crowds it was somewhat daunting. Nevertheless we made it to our seats, without bringing any water! Duh! So we had to go down and purchase a few bottles for about $4 per bottle. Grrrrrr. The game was fast and furious and the
Wei Boxing
The boys can fight virtually rather than in the traditional fashion thanks to the Auntie Gina. Riders crushed the Eskimos 54-14. We were very glad they won because we were sitting in the rowdy section and I think it would have been very ugly had the Riders stunk the place out. I have some memories of being at the stadium when the riders lost regularly and it was never pretty.
After the game we went for a terrific BBQ at Gary and Gina’s. We were fortunate enough to see Chris prior to his taking off for a camp-out with some friends. We got to use his bedroom while he was away and the kids got the deluxe air bed. Our visit with Gary and Gina was not a long one but it was very good. Odette and Oden came over and we all played with the toys Gina bought. The big hit was the Nintendo Wei that Gina bought. It was great fun watching everyone compete with each other. Owen turned out to be the Wei boxing champion defeating everyone. Watching Benjamin play the tennis was the most entertaining as he was jumping and swinging like a Wildman throughout the whole game. Of course Oden was very cute “playing” along with anything he could grab.
Gina versus Owen
Fun for everyone. Owen has been defeating all comers...can he defeat the owner of the Wei???? After a great night sleep, thanks to central air, we took off for Yorkton.
Notices and Tips—I have added some pictures and video to the Missinipe/Otter Lake entry. If you want a better view of the pictures in the blog just click on them and they enlarge. The video will have what appears to be a filmstrip and a title below it. Click on it to watch the video. The streaming takes some time so if it is looking kind of jerky just click pause and let it download before watching. I know the title is wonky on my Bridge Jumping Video but I was too lazy to fix it. I promise higher production quality on forthcoming videos. If you have dial-up the videos will be almost impossible to view. Until next time….

Good to see you at the game!
Hi All, It was great to see you all at the Rider game, and boy did they do us proud!!!! I have been up at Jane's in Lacombe since Mon. I am going to Cold Lake tomorrow to watch my nephew play PeeWee Baseball. Their team won the provincials and the westerns are in Cold Lake. Then on Sun. I am going in to Saskatoon for meetings on Mon. and Tues. I will be staying at the Radisson, so if the boys (or all of you) would like to go watersliding, feel free to come on over. If you are having trouble getting a hold of me, I am at the STF meetings. I bought a laptop this summer, so now I can stay connected even when I am away from home. I bet you are getting excited about your trip to Costa Rica. Owen, please, e-mail me after you get there and let me know what it is like. I'll be thinking about you all, take care and have fun!!!!
