Miramichi Bridge
from the North side Day 8. 2925Km
Today was a day of indecision. It's supposed to rain all around this area for the rest of the week. Where did I want to be. My original plan was to camp in New Brunswick close to the Confederation Bridge and ride over. If there was more than one days entertainment I'd motel it or stay in a B&B for a night. The weather forecast put an end to those plans so I thought about staying in Moncton figuring there would be plenty of things to do while the week passed. For a moment I decided I'd head straight to Sydney and drive around NS. Everything was south so I still had time to decide.
On the radio is Howard Stern interviewing Francis Ford Coppola. Love him or hate him, he is a great interviewer.
I headed South on HWY 11 crossing the Miramichi river after stopping for a couple pix. I decided to do some more coastal driving so I took HWY 117 which took me through Kouchibouguak National Park. I picking up HWY 134 and took it South to Shediac where I stopped for supplies and fuel. This is where I took note of the fact
Miramichi Bridge
from the South side the street light were upright again.
I got on HWY 11/15 heading to Moncton, took it to the next exit and turned around having changed my mind again. I was headed to Murray Beach Provincial Park so I got off HWY 15 at 955.
Once I got to the coast and spotted the Confederation Bridge I knew I was crossing it. I stopped for a couple pix at the base and headed across. The posted limit is 80. For some reason I thought it was 60. It only takes a few minutes to cross. I thought it was further.
I was happy to find the Information Centre open. So many along this trip have been closed. Apparently I am a few weeks early to be vacationing. Other than it being cool I'm OK with that. There is no problem finding a place to stay. As a matter of fact, last night in Caraquet, there were 4 of us in the entire campground. Now having said that, I found out the Provincial Parks here on the Island don't open till June 13th to 17th. They don't have Internet access anyway so I was'nt interested. I have a blog to keep updated
you know.
Once I got set up here I jumped on the bike for a short ride. I headed West into North Rustico. I turned into the little town and the road just ran out into a sand basin. During high tide, this would be submerged.
I went a bit further West before turning inland. There is NO grid on this Island. Roads run in all directions. Before I knew it I was getting close to Charlottetown. It was cold and the sun was setting so I will see Charlottetown another day. I turned on the GPS and asked it to guide me home. Having experienced the roads on my way to the campsite I knew I would end up relying on it to get me back so I programmed my base into it before I left.

elephant rock
Hi Cam - from there are you going to head west to Elephant Rock? If so, try to time it so you are heading from the rock, down the west coast of PEI at sunset(ish) - its amazing! And don't forget - on the way down that coast is Stompin' Tom Connor's museum - a MUST see ;-)
