It's been five years since Hamish's last North American conference was held in Toronto, and Alan is joining him for a few days of holiday.

After a pleasant flight of under 8 hours, Alan arrived in a rather cold but bright Toronto. Cold as in 2°C. Since our last visit Toronto has built a rail link from the airport to Downtown and the transfer was easy, albeit took a bit of time.

18th March: Woke up quite early because of the jet-lag. Put it this way, I heard the City Hall clock chimed 4! We had Canadian breakfast at Tim Hortons - grilled bagel with bacon and egg, hash brown and coffee. We like to eat local as you know. Hamish just had a bagel with cream cheese. It did the job of filling our bellies.

The weather has turned to cold and snowy, but not as cold as last week. When Hamish arrived, it was -7°C and with the wind-chill, it felt like -17°C! Today it was a tropical 1°C. In this weather, the city is not so inviting, but then they have the underground walkways connecting shops and buildings and we didn't have to go outside much.

dim sum lunch with friends, Hamish had to work and Alan walked (outside in the sleet) to St Lawrence Market. We enjoyed our visit 5 years ago and it didn't disappoint this time. It was great to see the market in full swing with locals doing their grocery shopping, and that it isn't just for the tourists.

Had dinner in the restaurant atop the CN Tower to celebrate a friend's birthday. Alas, the clouds closed in and all we saw was pea soup. Never mind, the food was lovely (see photos).
