Over the Hump.
Second half of our five months in Ontario.
Putting the call out to all of our friends to join us for Tony's 70th birthday celebration:
October 29th, 2015 - Come join us in February! See how 70 is the new 50.
Hi Everyone,
Some of you have heard about our big plans for February, some have not. In case you haven't heard, Tony is turning the big 7-0, yes, 70 years young in February! We want *you* to come celebrate with us! After all, they say that 70 is the new 50. Come see our what our life is like down south and see what keeps Tony so young! You all know Tony. He certainly doesn't look, feel or ACT 70 years old, now does he?!? 😉
Here's how the plan was formed: To celebrate this milestone, Tony's RBC co-workers had talked about a group visit south, to join the celebration. Since then, it's turned into EYC friends, a couple of my girlfriends, and many others, interested in joining us in the tropics for a week. So we picked a spot that is easy to travel to, has direct flights from Toronto, and has a variety of options for accommodations:
Sint. Maarten it is!
Everyone is welcome to join us. Make this one of your winter vacations! St. Maarten has something for everyone. You do not need to be a sailor to enjoy this lovely island. There are plenty of all-inclusive resorts, european plan hotels, villa rentals (for large groups like the RBCers) and Sailboat Charters (for our sailing friends). Here's some good info from the Tourism Office: http://www.stmartinisland.org
Nicknamed "The Friendly Island" it is divided approximately 60 / 40 between Sint Maarten (Dutch) and Saint-Martin (French). We will be anchored in either Simpson Bay or Simpson Bay Lagoon. (see map attached). Everyone will be welcome to come out to the boat to see first hand how we live aboard, and we would be happy to take people out for short day sails, weather permitting, of course. We really want this to be a fun week for everyone!
Check out the attachments to this email! I certainly urge you to do the research yourself, but I've quickly looked and found that Sunwing, http://www.sunwing.ca seems to have the best prices for our Canadian friends. American friends, you ALWAYS find better prices on flights! Sailing friends...sail over to join us! 😉
Some suggestions:
The Alegria (78 rooms) has been recommended to us by a friend who has stayed there a couple of time already and likes this three star property for the price point and for the kitchenettes available. (No meal plan, lower cost).
The Sonesta Maho Beach is a large all-inclusive resort (540 rooms), that other friends we know highly recommend. All meals, snacks and beverages are included.
Trip-advisor shows LOTS of villas for rent...albeit, you'd definitely need to rent a car because most of them are up in the hills. Click <here> for what I found.
Bareboat and crewed charters are one of the best ways to see the beauty of the islands. SunSail has a charter base on the east side of the island.

Of course, the choice is yours, but if you are thinking about a trip this winter, Tony and I do hope that you'll consider joining us in St. Maarten in mid February.
