Well the time has arrived. I didn't have a lot of money for this trip so one way to save was to take a bus instead of flying. I checked around a bit and find out the bus was not that comfortable. In particular the overnight bus attracts sketchy people and was not easy to sleep on. Unfortunately I was out of options so I decided to tough it out.
I arranged for a friend to drive me down to the bus terminal in downtown Toronto but unfortunately I had forgotten to tell her that it was in Toronto and she arrived to late to drive me. I am experienced traveler so I always have a fast backup plan in case something like this happens so I quickly drove to Toronto and parked in a nearby parking garage. Due to traffic I did cut it pretty close but I made the bus.
First leg of the trip to Buffalo wasn't too bad. I had the seat to myself and it wasn't too bumpy. We had to all exit and go through border checks with the Americans. I was prepared for this so when I was asked by the border police the purpose of my visit I Proudly called out "I AM GOING TO SEE CARLY RAE JEPSEN PLAY CINDERELLA ON BROADWAY".
When I got to Buffalo I exited and was amused to see a Tim Horton's at the bus station. The bus does attract a colourful group of people. There were a number of drug addicts and rather intoxicated people on this leg of the trip. One of the strangest arguments I witnessed occurred at this time. 2 men who had gotten off the bus and had their seats occupied by 2 men who were clearly stoned. The drug addicts were extremely polite as they explained greyhound policy that there are no assigned seats so they were under norequirement to move since the other 2 men had left it already. It was strange conversation as the drug users spoke very clearly with a smile on their face.
I got my first seatmate at this point and bad for me it was large man who smelled heavily of alcohol. He fell asleep fairly quickly and leaned heavily on me and despite my best effort he refused to wake up. I thought WOW this is what it is going to be like all the way to NYC. Thankfully this was not the case as he got off the bus 3 hours later in Rochester. I was surprised when he woke up entirely on his own just as we were pulling into the station. He must be a regular commuter on this bus so he was programmed to wake up at a certain time.
My next time seat mate was better. He was not drunk and was not as big and did not lean on me. Honestly what more can you ask for😊. I managed to get some sleep at this point so I was hoping I would be fairly refreshed for my arrival in New York City at 6AM.
