The day has finally arrived and in less than 48 hours I would be on the bus. To save myself a vacation day I had booked a flight late enough in the evening so that I could work that day. I expected the work day to go slowly but before I knew it 5PM was here and it was time to head back to apartment to wait for my ride. I had some time before my ride would be there so I did last minute checks of my luggage which I had bought specifically for this tour. My flight with Air Transat left at 9:30PM and I had asked a friend to get me at 7:00PM at my place. Shortly before 7:00PM I was waiting out front of my apartment building and wondering if I was really up for this. I was still wondering this when I realized it was past 7PM and my ride was not there. I wanted to make a call to her but realize the number was in my apartment. I decided to wait a bit because I had a little wiggle room. At 7:15PM I was getting worried and was debating either to call a cab
or go back to my apartment. Thankfully the car pulled up at that moment and I was on my way.
Arrived at Lester B Pearson International Airport at 7:30PM and I know they say to arrive at the airport at least 3 hours early for international flights but I have always cleared security quickly and end up waiting 3 hours for my flight. So this time I arrived 2 hours before my flight and still had time before my flight. I had done web check in the night before so I breezed through the air transat counter and got to my gate to wait for my flight. As usual with flights to London the people waiting were a mix of Canadians on vacation and British heading home. Soon enough it was my turn to board the plane and I went to my seat. I actually have a favorite seat on planes. I usually choose a center aisle seat that is on the right hand side. My reasoning for this because I don't feel a need to look out the windows of planes anymore and I don't like waking people up to go to the bathroom. I also found that when I sit down I lean to the right so it is more comfortable for me to sit on the right hand side. Anyway enough about my seat philosophy and back to the trip. Flight was fairly quiet at the start and I alternated between reading and trying to get my video screen to work. I had noticed the flight attendants trying to get the screens working for some other passengers so I assumed it was a systemic problem. I decided to go to sleep at this point and wait for the flight to land. I didn't sleep for very long before a plane wide announcement was done asking if there was a doctor on board. A woman a few seats in front of me was having a panic attack but luckily there was a doctor on board and she was fine. After this I tried to get back to sleep knowing the next time I woke up I would be over England and preparing to start my adventure.
