The shores of Lake Ontario
Part Two of tonight's blog marathon!

Saturday 29th May

On Saturday, with the sun shining and the thermometer pushing 30 degrees centigrade, Rachel, Darina and myself headed for a lovely brunch at a cool restaurant called Fire on the East Side, where we stuffed ourselves with delicious food.

We took a metro and streetcar (tram) to East Toronto and the shores of Lake Ontario. The neighbourhood is called The Beaches and was full of little shops, beautiful beach houses and bars with patios built for a day like Saturday. We walked along the beach and through the leafy side streets until brunch wore off and we needed to refuel. So we stopped at first, a sweet shop, which turned out to be more than that. It had its very own little corner of Britain inside, particularly Scotland. It also gave me the chance to hold aloft the World Cup (hopefully Mr Ferdinand will be following in my footsteps come July 11th in Cape Town!). We then stopped off at a little fishmongers to sample their fresh oysters. Rachel tried one from Rhode Island and then one from Vancouver, whilst mine was from Prince Edward Island. They are fast

becoming a real feature of our diets, not that either of us is complaining! On our way back to catch the streetcar, we passed a guy on the beach doing some incredible things with stones. (It was much more interesting than it sounds!) He had the incredible knack of being able to find the centre of gravity of a rock and balance it on another one, and created some really impressive sculptures.

In the evening we headed to the Greek area of Toronto for dinner and had a real feast! Rachel and Darina both looked like they were ready to give birth to little Greek babies when we had finished. Amongst the highlights of the night were: a flaming cheese dish called Saganaki(!), belly dancer and a woman with more plastic surgery than we had ever seen before! We did try and get a picture but I dont think we would have looked to subtle attempting to photograph her. After a nice walk home we were all asleep by half ten (probably due to the amount of sun we got!)

This guy was very good, he didnt have a begging bowl or want anything for his efforts, he just seemed to genuinely enjoy balancing rocks on their ends!
