Ok early start at 6am. Headed to subway for our $1.70 ride to the airport. Got to the 'Logan Airport' and checked in with no queues. Headed into the small terminal and waited to board. All of a sudden we hear- 'Flight 357 looking for passenger Logan'. Whoopies we were at the wrong gate and were not listening. So we boarded our small plane and were like the 19th and 20th passenger. We had the whole back end of the plane to oursleves. The flight was baout 2 hours and we were off and in customs in a flash. The luggage carousel was empty with our two bags going round.
Mum's friend Gary with his wife Carolyn were there to pick us up. We got into Gary's Yuekon (massive car) and headed back to his place. This was the first time we had actually seen houses and neighbourhoods. Different to home as they dont have front fences and there backyards are divided by a wire fence you see in a park so you can see through everyones backyard. Sat down for a good hour and a chat. This is probably the first time we have sat down so long.
So we headed off and took the drive to the Nigara falls. Stopped on the way to a food court thing for lunch. We drove along the scenic route past all the expensive massive houses with big front yards (just like the movies- think Father of the Bride) and they were all covered in snow. This road was along the Nigara river. The other side of the river was USA! It was like in a big gorge with cliffs either side. So we drove along and there it was the falls. First we saw the american falls which is a little lookout over the falls which you can walk out onto. Then further up the actual Nigara falls which is shaped like a horse shoe. It was a river that suddenly plunges into a much lower river. Alot of the below river was iced over so that looked cool. We walked up and were right on top of the falls, the mist was spraying all over us. We thought the Nigara falls was like Grand Canyon where you go to the middle of nowhere and there it is. But this is just like on the side of the road in
a busy town. Well its a tourist town that is decked out with wax museums, rides, bright lights and restuarants. We stopped for a hot chocolate and went on the Skywheel (faris wheel) to look over at the views. Then we went to a steakhouse for dinner which was very nice. Headed back to the falls where they were all lit up from coloured spot lights pointing at them - very pretty.
Drove back into Toronto (fell asleep on the way- bout an hour) and Gary took us to his fire station that he used to work at. He still knows the code and walks straight in and asked to see his mate. Cedric showed us around and told us about the different fire trucks. That was cool we had our own private tour of the station and got to have a look inside them. So we were very impressed. Then we drove around the rest of the town looking at all the sites and pretty lights. They even have like a mini Times Square. Back at Garys now, its nice to be in a warm house and talking to people.
