I continue my hike towards Tobermory. Drove north towards the head of trail. To get there I had to use a number of seasonal roads which are mostly gravel and dirt and are actually not maintained during the winter. I parked at the beginning of Prince of Wales Rd and started my hike.
I hiked along the road until the trail went over a climbing stile and you enter the forest. As soon I entered the forest I saw a flash of something large going through the woods. It was actually a number of deer that were running through the forest. I would see at least a dozen deer today which is about the number I have seen in all my previous hikes. You stay in the for about a km before exiting back onto the road and continue your hike northward on Prince of Wales Rd. After about 2km you turn left onto 20 Side Rd. I was watching deer running through the forest and along the trail and I must have missed the trail marker because when I checked my Alltrails app it showed I had gone past the markers. I double backed and finally found the correct
markers. I was walking along the trail next to a cattle ranch when I encountered a sign in sheet for the Bruce Trail. This box has a notebook in a plastic bag and allows you to write small messages. If it was a more dangerous trail you can leave advise for people heading in the opposite direction as you. I left a short message thanking the Bruce Trail Association for all its work. I looked at the previous message and it showed people had been leaving messages for at least 5 years. I continue my hike northward and was walking past more cattle ranches. Near one of them I saw that there was some kind of mechanism attached to the wire fence. For the life of me I did not know what it was. Unfortunately I found out a bit later. I was walking the trail and I slipped and grabbed the fence for support and got a jolt of electricity. There is a mild electric current running through the fence probably to keep cattle away. It was not signed so I had no idea.
After this shocking experience I continued my hike through a mix of forest and
fields. You than encounter a farmers field and are literally walking through the edge of the field until you turn back onto the trail in a forest. After about 4 or 5 km I exited the forest and fields and back onto Prince of Wales Rd. I took a break and sat down on one of the climbing stiles and pondered what to do next. I was at about 10KM at this point and it was about 6 KM back to my car. I had some computer work to do before too long so I walked back to my car and ended my hike.
Total hike for today was 16KM and 3 hours. This part of the trail is easy and you will get to see a lot of deer.
