hi this is short and to the point - no time, 20 mins left and the net cost lik 6$ for an hour so as you'd imagine I'm not dawdaling with the time. so since last blog, iv spent lots of money and seen lots and camped like a seasoned camper, with dick francis at one side, paul at the other, mosquitoes outside- a tent has never been so inviting! so we were in Algonquin for 4 days, we hiked - 11km if you dont mind!were privilaged to come across moose - no less than 3 sightings and as many birds of different colours with so many differnet calls as e could hear or see at any one time, it was like a bird convention. the moose were fab, long snouts, pointy ears, strong shoulders, patchy ... read more

Every journey has a dual nature. There’s the journey outwards, traveling to distant lands, encountering different cultures, making new friends and going to places that you’ve never been before. And then there’s the journey inwards, the inward itinerary that takes you to destinations within yourself, some of which may be familiar, and some of which may also be places you’ve never been before. It’s the mirroring of the outward and the inward journeys that makes traveling such a unique and rewarding experience. Though my trip won’t actually start for another six days, in many ways the journey began for me two years ago when I left work to begin studies in theology full time at St. Paul University in Ottawa. When my wife Guylaine found out that there would be internships as part of the ... read more

Itinerary We're in Ottawa right now visiting with our daughter. Here's our itinerary in Europe for future reference: April 24: Depart for Frankfurt April 25-26: Frankfurt: We hope to take an excursion down the Rhine to view the castles. April 27-May 1: Paris:We've rented an apartment on Avenue de la Bourdonnais, from which we (supposedly) can see the Eiffel Tower. We intend to see all the sights we have time for, eat lots of good food, and drink some wine. Then we pick up our Peugot at the airport and head north. May 1 - 9: Boulogne sur Mer (near Calais) From here, we'll tour around, perhaps venturing into England, Belgium, Holland--who knows? But we'll visit some of the war memorials, gardens, and whatever else looks interesting. May 9-12: Making our way down to Bonnieux (in ... read more

2. Genesis : ch1 v.3 and Homer Created Homer’s Hardware Homer’s Hardware store is my place of employment. It is not gainful. It is maddening. I have been an employee at Homer’s Goddamn Hardware store for 1 year, 8 months and 12 days. It feels like a fucking prison sentence that I don’t know when will end. At least the suckers in prison have a sentence. For me it’s partly a matter of motivation, and partly a matter of firmness of mind. I hate it enough to get out, but I don’t know what I’m going to do. I take comfort in my discomfort, however, as it ensures that I’m not like the rest of the sheep who want to make a career at a fucking hardware store. Two days in this place was too fucking ... read more

Hello out there folks. As I have promised some of you I've decided to publish the story I'm writing on this site as it is easy to access. If you think anyone would be interested in it, or enjoy it, pass it along. I will release the story in serials as I write it, so your feed back is much appericiated... It may just keep me writing ;). This is a work of fiction. Any resemblance to real life events, blah, blah'blah. So, with out further ado... adieu...adu... ad... whatever, I'll just get on with it. Homer’s Hardware A Novel in parts By Brendan Smith 1. Every Fucking Day Waking is always painful. The alarm blares its piercing racket through the static filled radio station it is set to. The time reads 3:51 am; this is ... read more

I'm in Ottawa and it's really nice to spend some time here before I fly back to the UK. I arrived here somewhat jaded from the pleasures and rigours of all that had gone before and it has been restorative to share the company of good friends in this place which I have visited many times. This is my first "Winter" sojourn in the nation's Capital and I've been initiated into some of Canada's seasonal obsessions. I went to my first "Hockey" game and saw the Senators beat the Oilers 4-3 after a shootout in front of 19,000 people at Scotiabank Place. It was great fun and, to use a technical term, "I'm hooked". I've "curled" my first stones on a rink at Nepean and, on the same day, taken my first (very) faltering steps on ... read more
