This would be my first hike in the Toronto Section of the Bruce Trail. I finished the Iroquioan section 2 days earlier. I was planning to park in the Kelso Conservation Area and than walking northward to Acton. When I got there at 7AM the conservation area had a sign up saying it would not open until 8:30AM. I tried to park on the side of the road on Campbellville Rd near Hilton Falls but every section of the road had a sign saying no parking allowed. I also saw a sign saying the overpass on the 401 for the Bruce Trail was closed so even if I parked at Kelso I would not be able to walk the Bruce Trail anyway. After sitting in my car for a few minutes I came up with a plan. I would drive to my end of trail in Acton and walk southward.
Once you reach regional rd 25 and 15 Side Rd in Acton you will see an abandoned gas station on your left. If you turn left at the light and drive about 100 meters down you will see a parking lot for the Bruce Trail on your left. After parking
my car and stretching I began my hike.
The entire hike southward is very rocky and can be treacherous. I slipped a few times but thanks to my good hiking boots I spared myself a sprained ankle. I was expecting the hike to take longer but I seemed to be getting stronger after all my hiking and was able to maintain a faster walking pace. You should never run on the trail but goes as quickly as you can walking. The first 5km of the hike is both rocky and narrow with a lot of bugs because the area is swampy.
The next 5km was more the same but you are up on the Escarpment so you have a nice view on your left. I than reached a metal bridge over a roadway. On your right is large Quarry and on your left is the roadway. You are quite high but the bridge is solid so it wasn't an issue. You will exit the trail onto a road and you will see an Irish Pub and Golf Course. Walk down the driveway and you will see the trail markers again and get back onto the trail. I than
entered Hilton Falls Conservation Area. I have actually been to Hilton Falls many times in the past. I used it to condition myself for my Machu Picchu Hike last year.
After 2 more km I exited onto the roadway on Campbellville Rd. I debated again whether to ignore the warning and try the overpass but ultimately I decided to play it safe. I was a couple KM short of my end point but I just walked down the road for a few KM to compensate. I than took an Uber back to my car. Next week I would be doing a long hike of 36KM to complete the Toronto section of Bruce Trail.
Today's hike 13 KM 2 Hours 41 Minutes
