Final hike of the year. I was hoping to make it all the way to Tobermory this year and finish the Bruce Trail. Unfortunately a number of setbacks and delays made that goal unattainable. So I settled on finishing the Blue mountain section of the Bruce Trail and reach Georgian Bay. I will finish the rest of the Bruce trail in one go over 2 week period sometime next year.
Drove north in the morning light as Daylight Savings has occurred so dawn came early. My parking spot was on County Rd 19 near Castle Glen. I started hiking north on the trail and the trail was relatively easy with some up and downs in the elevation. There was one spot where the incline up a river bank was a bit steep but there was a rope guide that you could use. This part of the trail was about 2km and you exit onto 12th side road which is just a dirt track. I was told the Bruce Trail for the next few KM was closed for the season and I was advised to use Mission Road Side Trail. I turned right on 12th side road and than left onto
Mission Rd. This part of the hike steadily went upwards as you go higher up the Blue Mountains. Along the way I see the zip line for Scenic Caves tourist spot. When you reach Scenic Cave Rd you turn left and walk up the road which is a fairly steep incline and just as you reach the Scenic Caves tourist spot entrance you turn right and back onto the hiking trail.
It was at this spot I heard what sounded like a water fall. I walked to the cliff edge and saw a large of amount of water spraying in the air and once I reached the edge I saw water was spraying out a long pole. Looking up and down the mountainside I saw that there were many of these poles. Skiing season is approaching so I am guessing they are getting the ground ready for the coming snow. The next few KM was one of the most pleasant parts of the hike I have experienced. You walk along a well maintained trail which will also be used by people going skiing in the coming months. You look right and you can see Georgian Bay and Collingwood beneath
you. I have seen a lot of beautiful sites on the Bruce Trail but this still impressed me enough to just sit by the cliffs edge and just take it all in. I ended my hike at KM 8 at the ending of the Blue Mountain section of the Bruce Trail at Maple Lane. I marked the spot and will go back there next year. After hiking 8KM back to my car I ended my hike and I won't be back in this area until next year.
It has been a challenging hike from Queenston Heights all the way to the Georgian Bay. I still have 400KM to go until I see Tobermory and touch the Northern Terminus of the Bruce Trail but it is a challenge I look forward to.
