Inukshuk
This inukshuk is located at "Sunset Pint" in Collingwood. Its Collingwoods little joke- you don't actually get to see the sunset properly from there- very funny! Howdy fellow Aussies!
Well our working days are almost over! The ski season at Blue Mountain is coming to a rapid end, aided by increasing temperatures (today it is a balmy 14 degrees!) and a lot of rain! Next week we will head off on our cross Canada road trip for about 5 weeks before heading back to Collingwood for aunty Cathy’s wedding. Then we will only have a few weeks before hitting home soil once again. But before I get too ahead of myself, let me update you on what social occasions we have managed to fit into our working lives.
For some true Canadian fun, we tried the art of Curling at the local club as part of the staff curling night at work. So basically it is like lawn bowls on ice- the latter making it very difficult, especially after having a few beverages at the curling club bar (and yes, drinks were at genuine 1970’s curling bar prices- gotta love that!). I don’t think during our “4 ends” of the game that our team managed to get one “rock” in designated target. Mark got one on the edge of the target and that was

Here is our fantastic curling team! about as good as we got! We did manage however to do some great falling on the ice- Mark managing this feat several times- needless to say he was quite sore the next day!
Also through work we got ourselves invited to a pot luck dinner. A fellow staff member, whom I had 2 conversations with prior (I must have made a good impression!), invited us for this dinner, and who are we to turn down a free meal? So off we go with a bottle of wine in tow. We were under the impression that all the guests would be our age and that we would be able to consume our bottle of wine- but as this trip has taught me, never assume anything! We arrived to be greeted by my colleague and all her family members- all of whom are in their 30’s and all of whom are cradling nearly brand new babies! When they start to say grace before we begin to eat, we seriously reconsider whether bringing the wine was the appropriate thing to do- if only we’d known! Needless to say we never did get to drink any of it!
Since our skiing
Mark's curling style!
I don't think this one made the target either! is improving so much we thought we would try our hand at snow boarding one morning. What a painful morning it turned out to be. We went with Marks work buddy Chris, who after about 30 mins of falling on his butt, decided to give up completely! I have to say i was nearly considering it myself, but we managed to get ourselves a free lesson and once I had some instruction it was a tiny bit easier! We never made if off the baby hill, but it was still a bit of painful fun and now we have a whole new respect for snowboarders! Its bloody hard!
One thing we had not done yet was to build a snow man. Well it was to be a snow man, until Mark put enormous breasts on our snow man, thus making it into Shazza the snow woman! We built her on our deck, which was a good idea at the time, but the freaky thing was she was looking through our loungeroom window at us constantly- it was a bit unnerving! She lasted about 24 hours before she began to melt away!
This week, our final week living in
Isn't she beautiful!
Here is Shazza in her full glory! Collingwood, Mark and his buddy Justin decided to have a “wing off” at the local “Beaver & Bulldog” pub. Of course fatty fat fat Mark won, with the final number of wings eaten being 23 and Justin with a score of 15. I think Justin’s tactics went down hill when he decided that “hot” wings were the only flavor he would eat!
This weekend we are having dinner with Paul and Steph in the next town over called Barrie and going to watch some bands play there. Should be good, and a good way to end our Collingwood days, well for now.
Hopefully our bad luck streak is now finally at its end. This time it hit us at home with half my kitchen burning down at Victoria Rd thanks to my lovely tenants! Surely nothing can happen to us during our road trip??? Lets hope not!
For all the hostelians, we hope you all have an awesome time on the 31st on Sally and Trav’s special day. Please send us through some photos so we can check you all out in your best wedding outfits!
Hope everyone is well and behaving themselves, well not too
Snowboarding
Well at least I look good with my matching coat and snowboard, even if all i can do is fall on my butt! much! Miss you all,
Lots of love,
Susie and Mark xoxo
