We left Saskatoon on September 8th, and spent the first night in a beautiful rest area (aka “free parking”) at Minnedosa, MB. We parked beside a small lake and witnessed an awesome sunset, with several flocks of Canada Geese flying over, starting out on their trek south as well. What we didn’t realize was that they don’t bed down and take a break for the night. Several night flights came in, all with a bunch of quacking and honking, as they greeted and reminisced about their summers with old friends. There were new arrivals every hour, twenty minutes of quack, honk, quack, honk while they caught up on news, then all settled down for awhile until the next flight came in. Note to self – don’t park beside a natural breeding pond, even though tempted by ... read more

We arrived in Winnepeg from Minneapolis at about 10:30pm. Brian picked us up and we drove the 2 hours to Minnedosa to their cottage. We woke up to a beautiful lake view from the cottage. We have spent 2 days here. We travelled to Riding Horse National Park to visit friends and to see Clearlake, a large and beautiful lake in the National Park. The cottages, log cabins to me, are beautiful and placed around the lake. It has been a little rainy but not bad. This morning we took a 3 mile walk around the lake and thru Minnedosa. We learned a little about the towns settlement and history. Tonight we head to Brandon where they live, we will spend the night there before we head to Regina tomorrow. Canada is beautiful, certainly more relaxed ... read more

Today was a busy day! We performed at Hartney, then drove onward to Sioux Valley for our second show before heading over to Minnedosa for our overnight. The Castle Bed & Breakfast hosted us. It’s a delightful family and guest home with an interesting history. Most guest rooms seem to have their own bathrooms! We had plenty of time in the afternoon to explore the house, the streets, and the community. We enjoyed dinner in town at the local diner, and bowling in the late evening.... read more

Another Out & Back Saturday, 14 July 2007 This morning there was a parade in town. Something called “Fun Fest”. It’s not mentioned in any of the tourist publications, nor in many places in town either. I’d only known because the librarian said that although the library was normally open on Saturday mornings it would not be today because they have a float in the parade. I’d thought they’d maybe start at the Fairgrounds, not too far from here, because I’d noticed quite a few pick-ups pulling horse trailers. Bob found out at the restaurant this morning that it was supposed to start at 11 AM, so I hoped to be gone by then, and it seemed to be happening more “downtown”. The Trans Canada Trail doesn’t come through here. It’s mainly a sort of half-way ... read more

Nothing much in Minnedosa Friday, 13 July 2007 Alas, yesterday was a fairly wasted day. We would have not wanted to stay here as many days as we are doing (3), but the next hotel, in Neepawa, is full (a wedding, I think), so here we are, at least till Sunday morning. While Bob was walking Panna in the morning, I phoned the local library to see if they had internet access for the general public & they do. So I went down there, it’s about a ½ kilometre walk, and checked my email, then returned to the motel & waited with Panna while Bob went down there. It had seemed that Bob arrived here via a different route than I and I was curious to see it. He’d also driven through a large valley ... read more

Bob Meets a Bear! Thursday, 12 July 2007 Today marks one month since we left Ottawa. In a way, it doesn’t seem like it’s been that long. On the other hand, like the tour itself, it seems like it’s just been part of our lives for quite a while, an indeterminate while. Despite the unusual, and sometimes not very “exciting” places we’ve stayed, on the whole, I feel it’s been a great adventure. I only hope Bob feels the same, especially after his experience today. My plan today was to cycle from Sandy Lake, where I was picked up yesterday, to Minnedosa, where we will stay the next 3 nights. Yesterday I’d pointed out to Bob where the TCT intersected with a road, so he could park Casper & go for a quiet walk with Panna, ... read more
