... read more

So we blew out of Minneapolis and made it to Grafton, ND. We tried to camp on the side of the road,(see pic of Bryon in the grass.) But the grass was just too high. We tried asking some old man if we could camp on his lawn and he told us "go upta Grafton, they's got free campin' there in the park" So we did and it was a perfect spot with a warm night. Next day we were set to hop the border to Canada and make a stop in Winnipeg. The border crossing went over okay since we stowed the pellet gun and booze in the camping gear. As we got in to Winnipeg, there was another biker, Rob, that befriended us and led us in to "The Forks" which is a shopping ... read more

During her trip, Ro is spending a week at each farm she visits, and about a month in each province. We figured that we could just about fit 2 provinces and 3 farms into my trip, Poplar Glen being the first farm, in Manitoba (Ontario will be next). I guess I was a little apprehensive about this whole WWOOFing thing - you turn up at a lonely bus stop, are picked up by a total stranger and taken to their farm, whereupon you live in their house and eat their food for a week. But I have to say, it’s amazing how quickly you settle into their daily lives! Each day, regardless of the weather, the chores need to be done - in the morning feed and water the kittens and cats in the barn, feed, ... read more

Not content with a 17 hour marathon journey yesterday, and clearly missing Winnipeg airport already, Chris, Ro and I headed back there shortly before 9am on Tuesday in search of a Greyhound. A very friendly and helpful man behind the counter relieved Ro and myself of $52 apiece, in exchange for a 5 hour road trip to Grandview, Manitoba. Five hours sounds like a long time, but when you have years of catching up to do, the time passes very quickly! Undoubtedly we entertained/irritated the entire bus for most of the journey with our various stories. But we were happy and no-one actually complained. Besides, Mimmi the elderly lady sitting opposite us was far more irritating with her extremely loud mobile phone conversations for the first hour... half were French-accented Canadian and half were weirdly-accented French. ... read more

Today was an exciting two-show day at two different schools in Dauphin. We were twice-blessed with some exceptional helpers to load us in and out of our venues. Despite some foreboding weather forecasts, we braved the roads for a three-night stay in our home city. We beat the storm into the city, and enjoyed watching the clouds roll in behind us for our day off. ... read more

Happy Valentines' Day! We traveled to Dauphin today, and checked into the motel in the early afternoon. Dauphin is a lively town with ample gas stations and grocery stores, and it turns out there’s even a recreation complex across the street from our motel. Normally it wouldn't have been open, but our motel manager pulled some strings with his daughter, the lifeguard. Our bathing suits made another appearance while we enjoyed hot tubbing, wave pooling, watersliding, and our own version of water volleyball. ... read more
