As the season for snow winds down, I thought I would briefly recap how my last three months have unfolded in the eyes of a powder fiend. Yes I said it, it’s true. Sadly that is what I have become…but after 80 days of riding this year, I just can’t seem to get enough. The addiction only becomes worse. You want it more and are willing to work harder and put more effort into trying to get it. And even after you get it good, you still want more of it, for longer and longer…ahhhhhh. The feeling never ends. I will definitely be back next season.
February found me busy showing off the ‘goods’ of what Revelstoke had to offer. We had numerous visitors who dropped by to check out the hype of North America’s newest ski hill. Needless to say they were NOT disappointed. I also went on a three week road trip to the coast. I spent a few days with my Island family up in Campbell River skiing Mt. Washington, saw my brother and friends in Vancouver and headed up to Whistler for a week of riding with my buddies who still live up there. After that

Lily Glacier, Glacier National Park I connected with my parents and spent a wonderful week between Whistler and Vancouver as a whole family, something that is happening less and less often these days…
March flew by, with the highlights being some amazing backcountry days in Rogers Pass, some awesome powder days on the resort at Revelstoke, and then that epic road trip down to Jackson Hole which is described in my previous blog. I finished off the month with a week in Calgary trying to catch up with friends and family I have not seen in a very long time.
And finally April. This has been hectic, non-stop month. After putting in a few days at Revelstoke, it was off to Kicking Horse in Golden to catch the final days of their season. Then it was off to Victoria for a week to do a first aid course (a good excuse eh?) plus party with my good friends still remaining on the island. Then back out to Revelstoke and off to Lake Louis for an attempted ski trip that failed miserably. We tried to ski up past Moraine Lake in Banff National Park to an alpine hut up on a glacier. Unfortunatly we

Slashes in the making. were forced to turn around due to sketchy avalanche conditions and near zero visibility (i.e. caught in a middle of winter snowstorm in mid April). So instead we got a 20 mile x-country ski workout all while carrying 40 lbs! So my schedule for the rest of April is as follows; pack and move out of Revy over to Vancouver Island. Go surfing in Tofino for the last week of April. Should be good.
So as you can see I have been pretty busy trying to capitalize on this winter season. I feel I have somewhat successful done that. Time has definitely gone by so fast? It still feels like the winter is just beginning!
But the reality is, with the boardbag packed away, the excitement and anticipation are beginning all over again with an adventure of an entirely different sort! Next stop, culture shock and a far cry from -20 and 10cm of fresh - its off to India and +40 for a two month backpacking adventure with my brother! Stay tuned for that coming in May!
