Our Plane
At the dock September 26,2018
Vancouver, BC
Hail, Hail the gang's all here!
The advance team (us) has finally connected with the second wave team. We met at breakfast: Medina (Vancouver) - WOW...so many exotic and wonderful choices for our dining pleasure. I had the Tagine...2 perfectly poached eggs over a spicy sausage with an AMAZING sauce which included garbanzo beans, tomato and a very thick Moroccan yogurt and a side of avocado. So. Good. For the table, we were surprised by the presentation of waffles with 4 sauces - Medina is known for its waffles. Again - so very tasty. This is a must visit restaurant. Attentive staff, creative menu and an almost endless selection of food.
After ordering our meal we all had the opportunity to catch up and chat, and chat, and chat some more. Lee & Perry finally got to meet Jeremy (passed inspection - as if there was ever a chance of failure).
After our meal we broke off into 2 groups - Lee & Perry had a mission in mind; Christopher and I had no plans - UNTIL I heard what the other group had in mind...a Sea Plane Tour of Vancouver.
I. AM. IN. We tried to get tickets on line (the phone situation is a TOTAL MESS...Verizon - Not. Happy) So I took a chance - what's the worst that will happen - they say no the plane is full. So off we went to the location (which by the way is next to our hotel) for an adventure in the skies. The line was a bit slow moving, so I was thinking it wasn't going to happen. I may have been disappointed, but we tried. Finally up to the front of the line and BINGO...I'm In! In fact, it was not a full plane.
Pilot Hottie (not his real name...at least that I'm aware of) led us to the plane. This is either going to be amazing or the death of us all. It was AMAZING! We flew up the Howe Gorge, over Vancouver, West Van, and all points in between. The ride was smooth as silk and landing on the water felt as though we were skipping along the surface of the water like a flat stone. I. LOVED. IT! I'd do it again in a heartbeat. As a side note, also on our adventure was a
Science Center
Former Expo site family visiting from Mexico. Their teenage son, confined to a wheelchair and non-verbal was SO excited to take oo and so excited throughout the trip. He was in awe when we were up in the air. His smile said more than any words could possible convey. When we landed he let out several whoops TOTAL ECSTASY! BLISS. The opportunity to experience this voyage through his eyes was miraculous for me. After deplaning - Pilot Hottie took pictures with the young man and his family. He was so VERY appreciative and the pilot so very attentive - a rare moment of "connection" conveyed through eyes and smiles. So happy to be a witness.
Christopher was waiting for us as we trekked up the ramp. He had taken a video of us as we departed. I showed him some of the pictures I had taken - we were all on such a high. We decided to go to our hotel and have an adult beverage and a snack before dinner - since we hadn't had lunch. A cheese plate and multiple bowls of salty/spicy snacks will hold us over until dinner, which is scheduled for 6:30 at Tableau.
We walked
to Jeremy & BE's hotel met them and all walked together to Tableau. We were being seated when the remainder of the group arrived from their hotel - and away we go! Dinner was very good; unique drinks menu, French fare and attentive service. I was waffling between the duck and steak...flipped a coin and selected the steak. Quite good. Dinner lasted over 2.5 hours...we laughed until it hurt;sharing stories, reminiscing thinking about friends who are not with us and NOT WITH US. We had a great time - it helps when there is love. After dinner we walked J & BE back to their hotel and we walked back to ours. Cleaned up, writing and soon to bed.
Tomorrow we board Regatta and begin the cruise. We are all just so excited to be on this holiday together. A trip to Granville Island will bring our Vancouver adventure to a close. Time to pack and get the luggage ready for tomorrow morning. Ciao for now.
