Lake Superior
Plenty of water but no cricket, or for that fact people Hi Nackers,
Well what a road trip so far. We have made it 5,000 km across Canada and stopped at every major centre across the way. We have hunted bears in northern Ontario, been the toast of the town at the Juno awards in Saskatoon, climbed the highest peaks of the Rockies, partied hard in Whistler, but still no sign of an Canadian with half a cricket brain (Plenty of Aussies in Whistler though).
The first point of call was the Lake Superior provincial park, which is known for Bears and Moose. Beefie would not shut up insisting on singing that lame "were going on a bear hunt" song. Considering it was still the tail end of winter our chance of actually seeing one was about as good as England’s chances in the World Cup. Also, since it was bloody cold anyone with half a brain was in the park therefore not a soul to convert to an avid cricketer. From the park it was onto Thunder Bay. After the duck we scored in the park we did not want to be left with a pair from our first two innings. We decided to employ the help of
Wings of an eagle
Fly Beefie fly.... lets spread the word. Hey you down there You heard of a game called cricket??? a few natives. Riding the wings of an eagle we got a bird’s eye view of the town. But for some reason all we got were looks of bewilderment from the locals below. You would think they hadn’t seen two guys ride an eagle before.
From there it was across the prairies via Winnipeg, Regina and Saskatoon. Let me tell you this, if you like wheat then it is the place to be, but if not put the steering lock and cruise control on lean back and keep going straight. That is all there is. But while we were in Saskatoon the Juno awards were on. This was a big deal for the town with all the grade A celebs turning out including yours truly. We did have a few snaps with Nelly Furtado but they were considered to scandalous by her manager and we were forced to delete them. But let me tell you this, she maybe a “man eater” but she is “like a bird” and was no match for the mighty tash.
From wheat fields we fell into Dino country Drumheller. A huge T-Rex is not the best creature to explain the finer points of
Boonie for Lunch
Hey Beefie you get the feeling something is watching us? a perfectly executed cover drive to. Needless to say we hung around about as long as India did in the World Cup. In our haste Beefie got us lost and we nearly ended up down one of the huge canyons in the Badlands area.
The next stop was in Calgary, the host of the winter Olympics back in the 80’s. Surely a city with such a rich sporting heritage could appreciate cricket. We headed to the Olympic park in search of some athletes. While we were there we tried our hand at bobsledding and the 30m ski jump. Since I was not the best of runners I drove and Beefie pushed (he did have a bit of a run up when he bowled), I also gave the sled a bit of extra weight down front, which helped our times.
By this stage we were nearly across the country the only thing in our way was a few foot hills called the Rockies. They actually turned out to be quite big. I don’t think that even big Roy could hit a ball that high. While in the Rockies we took a bit of R&R at Lake Louise, watching idiots
Wrong turn into a Canyon
I told you to turn Left at Drumheller! Now where the hell are we. come screaming down the hill like a Brett Lee beamer and going ass over tit is pretty good entertainment.
Now that we had done the Rockies it was onto the unofficially capital of Australia, Whistler. There are more Aussies here than Canadians. For a while I was starting to think I was home until I heard a Canadian accent, which stuck out from all the Aussies. There was a huge ski festival on. Beefie and I went a bit crazy and somehow ended up in a big air competition to see who could pull off the biggest meanest trick. Well for a man with impeccable timing and coordination as my self this was a easy task. The field was left looking like Pigeon when he’s bowled middle stump, due to the trick I pulled, a 9 inverted corkscrew with a method grab. Needless to say I dominated like the Aussies in the Super 8’s.
Now it is onto Vancouver and Victoria, which are meant to be the most English or Canadian cities. I have even heard rumors of a cricket pub!!! Let’s hope so because I am beginning to think that Canada is a lost cause in the
Boonsled Team
Hey Beefie you had a good run up in your day, you reckon you can push us down the ice in this. If Jamaica can do it and have a movie made about it. We would get at least a trilogy. I would call it Boonsleding cricketing world.
Till next time Nackers
