Wet wet wet

It was chucking it down this morning, so my plans of visiting Granville Island had to be shelved. Nothing to do but stay in the hotel room until the rain had eased and then went out for lunch. I didn't have to go far before I found a Japanese restaurant. The place was busy, so a good sign. They did "lunch boxes" (bento) which looked nice. I chose the most expensive one with sashimi. When I said the most expensive, it is still half the price of what I would pay in London. Ok, it wasn't the most refined Japanese, but the fish was fresh and the tempura wasn't bad either. The sashimi could be cut a little thinner, however.
After lunch, I walked towards Robson square, which is in the middle of downtown surrounded by nice shops. Granville Street is a good place to go shopping. As you go further south, the style changes; from Regent Street to Holloway Road. But the less plush parts have a few architectural gems. One or which is the home for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. The outside of the venue doesn't look much, but I have been told the interior was rather grand

Retail therapy can be very tiring, so a quick rest back in the flat before meeting my niece for dinner. She met me in the middle of downtown and we walked to her condo. What I didn't know was that we had to walk over Granville Bridge. It was rush hour and lots of traffic. But there were no barriers between the pavement and the tarmec. We walked and talked while cars were hurtling pass. Scary!
She took me a Japanese restaurant, today's culinary theme, local to where she lives. Now, this is an authentic Japanese restaurant. You can tell when you enter and they all shouted to each other "kokyakusama!" (customers!) and they all greet you in unison "irashaimase!" (welcome!). The food was amazing! In addition to their normal menu, there was the spring menu featuring some yummy sounding dishes. We order a variety of things and everything was delicious. Once again, when the bill arrived, it was such a pleasant surprise how reasonable it was. Can't say any more, you'll just have to look at the photos!
