Photo location...
It was such a beautiful location for the official wedding photos, although the bridesmaids found it a bit tricky walking over the rocks in their ridiculously high heels... My first few days in Canada I spent with my friend Liisa whose house I have been staying at. We went and explored some of Vancouver City and went on a lovely boat trip around the port. We also went to this valley where you could cross a suspension bridge and go on lots of walking trails. It was so lovely to catch up after not seeing each other since Alice Springs in April! Liisa took me to Horseshoe Bay after driving to some scenic lookouts. This is where I boarded the ferry to Vancouver Island, arriving in Nanaimo after one and a half hours.
My family knew that I was over on the mainland staying with a friend, whilst they were all on the island. What they didn't know though, was what day or time I'd be arriving at the hotel where they were staying at. I planned to get there Thursday
evening (2 days before the wedding). This way they would think...'oh she's not coming now, it's too late in the evening'. My plan was a success and that's exactly what they thought! Luckily on the hotel bed they had left a number for Sarah's house (the bride)
Mrs and Miss Hewes...
Outside the church before the wedding ceremony... so I could still attend and meet them at the bridal shower.
It was strange seeing my family again (only my parents and cousins were there though. My brothers, sister-in-laws and little nieces and nephews are still in the UK). It felt like I hadn't really left and I'd just seen them the other week! Man it was so lovely to be with them again and in such a beautiful location on Vancouver Island.
The wedding was glorious. Perfect weather for the whole day. I still can't believe my cousin Luke is married! The service was lovely with some of Luke's friends playing instruments and leading the songs for the wedding. Sarah looked absolutely stunning...the wedding photos will just look gorgeous, taken down on the rocks by the sea with mountains in the background. Everyone took off their shoes (except the bridesmaids) which I think looks nice in a photo. It felt strange being surrounded by beautiful scenery and on such rugged rocks...but wearing a fancy dress...I needed and wanted my hiking boots!
I love weddings and how each one differs. The reception was at Sarah's house where her back garden leads onto the beach! It really
Girly shot...
Lizzi (my friend), Becca (my cousin & friend) and me... was a beautiful location to enjoy the dinner, speeches and a little boogie afterwards. I loved being able to wear a dress again (thankyou Daniel, I really love it) and get dressed up properly. It's pretty hard whilst travelling when you more or less have a clothes choice of one...
After Luke and Sarah scadaddled off on their honeymoon I went with some friends to Victoria, the capital of British Columbia (the province I'm in in Canada). The plan was to have a walk about, check in to a hostel (I miss them) and have a night out. However, it was a Sunday and the nightlife there on this day is pretty non-existent. In the end we let the complaining two guys who we drove up with, go back to the hostel, leaving Becca, Lizzi and myself to go back to a bar that was empty but had friendly staff. The night then turned out better than we expected by meeting some Canadians (it's always great meeting locals when you're travelling I find) who were very interesting to talk to and on another good note, paid for all our drinks. Thankyou Canada!
Now I am back in Burnaby
Mummy and Daddy...
My wonderful parents who now think they're famous because they are up on my travelblog... with Liisa and her son Stefan. In my last few days we have driven up to Whistler ski area. The coastline and islands on the drive up were gleaming in the sunshine, it was beautiful. We also went into the city one last time to have a good old explore (my ankles hurt so much from walking in thongs/flip-flops) and a night out at a improv theatre venue. I think that is my new thing, I'll have to find a comedy improv venue in London when I get home...
Home...that will be a reality again on the 2nd of September. I am actually writing this on the 1st of September, my flight is this evening. Man I can't believe my next flight is back to England! My time travelling has gone so fast, but it has most certainly been the most amazing thing I have ever done. The whole experience has been heaps better than I expected. Before you travel you really have no idea what it is going to be like, until you are out there doing it...and that is when you realise how special every element of travelling is!
I can tell you now, this will
Happy families...
