Our propeller plane

Oh, Canada... (August 28, 2015)
Here we are in Canada. Funny how a "short" trip like this takes the whole day and is so tiring.
We dinked around the house "waiting" for our agreed upon depature time. A nice relaxing morning.
When we arrived at the US Airport parking lot and turned off the car, Jeff looked at me and said, "Oh Crap!" Actually he didn't say "crap", but this is a family blog so we'll say "crap."
"I forgot my hat!"
Well, this is a disaster. Jeff bought this wonderful hat specifically for this trip - it was a Tilley and designed not to blow off, it was expensive, and it was still in our hall closet. Crap is right.
Our flight to Seattle was uneventful, though it was a small plane, two seats per side. So we had a row to ourselves (as did every one else)
When we got to Seattle we had a 3.5 hour layover before our 45 minute flight to Victoria. We enjoyed our snacks of cucumber, green pepper, carrots and celery. I had brought some little packets of peanut butter/almond butter, and Jeff bought a small container of hummus. Our healthy lunch was delicious. The Seattle airport is beautiful and had some lovely places to sit - including rocking chairs for relaxing.
From Seattle I texted my sister-in-law, Janet, to report Jeff's forgotten hat. Janet and John have been in Canada for the past 4 days. They offered to start hitting the thrift stores in search of an acceptable chapeau.
Soon we boarded our flight to Victoria - smaller plane; and this flight was so short that the beverage service consisted of cups of water quickly dispensed and collected.
Update from Janet: she and John found a "Crocodile Dundee" style hat for $10. Score! It didn't have a chin strap to keep it from blowing off, but it did have the grommets, so they also bought a pair of hockey skate laces (how Canadian) and voila! A boat hat. Whew.
Victoria Airport is very compact and easy to navigate. We got our luggage (one checked bag - more on that later), found an ATM and went to find the bus stop. Yes, there are taxis and and airport shuttles, but the bus is only $2.50 apiece, and it will be an adventure! The bus drivers were so helpful that we had no problem at all transferring. In fact when we got on the second bus, we asked the driver about the third bus. She explained that her bus would drop us within 3-4 blocks of our hotel..and "you'd have to be really lazy" to take a bus basically around the corner. hahaha!
We did get off and walk.
We are staying at the Victoria Regent hotel and the only room I could get for the night was a "partial view" suite. WOW! What a great room! Full kitchen, living area, and a wonderful balcony overlooking the Bay. The balcony had patio furniture...unfortunately we check in around 9pm and still need to find a liquor store. We don't have a lot of time to enjoy our nice room.
We walk to the liquor store and there is a lot of activity on the streets - a very vibrant area and we're happy that after sailing we'll be returning to the Victoria Regent next Thursday for 3 additional nights.
Got an update from Janet. They found another hat for Jeff - a Tilley, very similar to the one he left home. We agree to surprise him with it tomorrow.
Time for bed.

Tilley's are the best hats ever! John has 2 of them, one for winter and summer. Never without one!
