Day 5-The final full day of our vacation & the last chance to have a go at the mountain.
Today all of the boys decided to go to the mountain, even the one who doesn't board or ski. I guess hanging at the lodge alone sounded better than being with 3 girls all day?
So we girls had another lazy morning, but eventually decided to get dressed and head to town since it would be our last chance to shop and get goods from the bakery!
The only problem: it's New Year's Day! Almost everything in town was closed...only 2 shops were open plus the drug mart and a few cafes. Even the grocery store was closed! We laughed at our obliviousness and decided to go check out the shops at the ski lodge. It would also be a good opportunity to see if there was any room available at the restaurant there for that evening, since we realized that most places would probably again be full.
Once there it took forever to find a parking spot, but we ended up parking right next to the boys' car. Deciding to have a little fun, we pulled a great prank! It seems
they hadn't locked the ski rack so one of the boards was just up for grabs! We decided to take it with us and make them suffer for their lack of awareness. It seemed like a great prank...until we ran into the group right outside the lodge. They were the first people we saw! It was so hard to keep the joke in until it would be funny, but we all managed to do it.
We looked around at the retail shop there, but everything was severely over priced. It seems to cater to those who came to the mountain unprepared and will pay through the nose to stay warm and dry. After that we went to the restaurant to see if we could place reservations, but again no luck. We met the rest of the party back at the base of the lift and saw them off before heading back to the condo.
We proceeded to call several places, but as expected everywhere we thought of was closed or booked full. We ended up going to a nice little pub that was a bit off the beaten path and had great burgers & sandwiches. We even got to see
the brother who had been our local entertainer for the past few days! He and the other 2 who were with him joined us for drinks and by the end of dinner we were all glad we had made this decision.
After dinner we were invited to a bonfire at this brother's house , but the majority of the part wanted to get back and pack up since we were leaving the next day (also they were wary of standing outside in the 8 degree weather even if it is next to a fire). We all went back and played 1 last game of Phase 10 before packing up & cleaning up.
Now as our last night in Canada comes to a close and I tuck myself into my sofa bed next to the fireplace, I look back fondly at my pictures and memories of the last 5 days hoping it won't be my last night here ever!
