Our Road trip to Banff

Hello All,

Here's a few photos of what we have been upto since our last blog!

We have had a few visitors over the last couple of weeks - Courtney and Dave came up from Portland for the Easter long weekend, and then Mel's Dad and his wife Mandy from Australia.

We had a great time with the Americans (Courtney and Dave) (they really took to the 6 toy Koalas Mark's mum sent over!), the visit was short but we all had a great time!! (remember guys you are more than welcome to visit again in the summer 😊

Then Mel's dad and Mandy arrived (after a 12 hour wait at San Francisco airport! ugh) and we began plotting and planning our Road Trip to Lake Louise!!!

After a couple of days seeing the sights in Vancouver we headed East to the Rockies, Alberta, Lake Louise and Banff (click on the link to see a map of our trip). Amazing scenery and we even saw deer, moose and a caribou! The drive through the Rockies was awesome, our first stop was in Revelstoke, a quaint little town surrounded by snow capped mountain peaks. Then headed off the next morning driving through mountain range after mountain range stopping at Tim Horton’s (for some true Canadian lunch). We checked out Banff which was beautiful and then overnighted in Lake Louise. After dinner we headed up to look at the famed lake and as we approached our first reaction was to burst out laughing as it was FROZEN and not the reflective turquoise water we had expected and had seen in postcards. None of us had put two and two together that Lake Louise would be frozen just like all the other lakes we had seen on our drive there, duh!. Never the less it was beautiful and at 8pm with no one else around it was silent, amazing and great to have the lake to ourselves (for the Aussies out there "how’s the serenity!").

We had a great time with Alan and Mandy and it was a lot of fun to get out to the Rockies!

'till next time
Mel & Mark

Avalanches!

As you drive along the Transcanada Hwy in the Rockies you drive through several Avalanche protectors which keep the road open when there are Avalanches, the snow goes straigh over the top of the tunnel.

We all expected to see a beautiful torquise lake like in the postcards, even though we had passed several frozen lakes it didn't click that Lake Louise would also be frozen - duh!

Hey - ooh, looks exciting! No snow in Cranbourne - but a truckload of rain today. Courtney certainly scrubs up all right in her old age! Ha! Hope you are both well. Mel - sorry for being slack e-mailer... Cheers, EL
