Wow
"Ain't no mountain high enough"... Idk that ones pretty dang high! And we're off! Off to Jasper that is for the thanksgiving weekend! I have never been to jasper, nor have I ever seen the Rocky Mountains so I have no idea what to expect. We drove in at night so I couldn't see anything and boy was I amazed in the morning. The cute little town is surrounded by marvellous mountains! The sight is extraordinary, the outdoor smell is so refreshing, and the mood of the whole place is extremely pleasant. After Sunday breakfast we bundled up and drove around to see what there is to see! First of all we stopped at a place called 5 Lakes and did alittle hike but they were more like swamps. It was still a great way to try out my new camera, break in my new hiking boots and some exercise. Athabasca falls were next. I have never seen a river so blue in Canada, it was so deceivingly inviting. The freezing water gushed past the rocks, carving unbelievable shapes and designs over the years. After that we made our way to angel glacier which means taking the most twisty road I have ever been on! The hike to see this holy sight
The gondola
What an experience! was quite nippy and quite the hike! The pattern on the glacier looked like an angel at one time, but fell out of shape. I think the glacier should be called satan because it's a fallen angel. Haha (jk). There were a lot of little places along the road where we pulled off and explored. Sometimes these hidden lookouts gave the best views! For me, one of the most exciting parts of jasper was the gondola ride! The tramway took us up to the top of a mountain in the middle of the Rockies. It was actually a perfect time we had chosen to go up since the next day it would be closed down. Mount Robson, the tallest mountain which is actually in B.C. was able to be seen from the lookout which is incredible since 95% of the time it's covered by clouds. Lucky us! I have never seen a view like this one. In all directions were mountains as far as you could see, the towns were tiny, and people micro organisms! I encourage everyone to come to jasper and experience this once in their life. Maybe one day I'll climb a mountain, not this year though,
On the top of the world!
This mountain is a great way to put someone in their place without words. It truly shows you how small you are, but at the same time shows you the wonderful world at your finger tips, best be taking advantage of it all! Brrrr (if you know me well enough you know I can't stand the cold so this would be quite the challenge for me). That weekend we also went to Malign lake which was somewhat like Athabasca falls but a lot longer and was home to the swift bird which is rare and attracts hundreds of bird watchers every year. We were lucky enough to spot one splashing around and snapped a few photos! Medicine Lake is another cool spot which is a lake that completely empties and refills in a year. The Indians used to be afraid of it since they didn't understand where or why it disappeared. We did see some wildlife on our trip, unfortunately no bear, but some big horned sheep (we got close enough to pet one on the side of the road!!!) elk, and deer! I had a wonderful thanksgiving meal (Arctic char in some sort of pastry, and for desert, creme brûlée! That was a first). It was actually quite humorous, but on our road trip home we stopped in at a restaurant to meet up with Derrick, Chris' old friend. As we were finishing our meal a lady comes into the restaurant and
Petra and I
Did the panorama work!? towards our table. Her eyes were beady and made me very uncomfortable. Derrick asked her abunch of questions like how she found him, and why she was here. Turns out she's his stalked crazy exgirlfriend who won't leave him alone and thought I was his new girlfriend. Both Chris and Petra knew exactly who she was and tried to help Derrick escape from her creepy presence. "I'll race ya" Poor guy. What an eventful weekend, definitely one I will never forget!
