Hi Guys,

Well, only 7 sleeps to go till I touch down in sunny Melbourne! Been pretty busy the last week playing cricket with eskimo's, making curling look like brain surgery and giving Matt a decent send off...

Last monday the temp was about 27 deg, sunny and beautiful, by Saturday morning it was -3deg with wind chill, and Matt and I set off to Riley Park in search of the mercy rule. It wasn't to be. Despite making a point to wear 3 tea-shirts and (i shit you not) 5 jumpers & 3 beanies, some genius decided that the game would go ahead. I will never again complain about playing in cold weather! we scrambled to 140 odd in our 40 overs, a fair target considering the conditions. St Johns did their best to lose, before the last pair teed off and managed to tie the scores before attempting to post one to Vancouver. Bowled. Tie. Shit.

Confusion then set in because a win would see St Johns win the league, but it soon became clear that the 'baseball' team Predators were now in top position. Predators play cricket like

the boys from Georgetown, but with ADHD, and they were now champs. What a complete waste of 7 hours, the only satisfaction being that we stopped St Johns from winning the season and that I didn't lose 10 fingers and toes to frostbite.

Hit the Calgary curling rink last week for a bit of a run on the sheets, what great fun. Fell on my ass twice and nearly busted a hip but we would go back in a heart beat... the experience and enthusiasm of Mukul, Grant and myself was far to good for the likes of Matt, Kishan and Brandon who went down 8-5. Awesome. Don't think I will be representing AUS anytime soon though... Afterwards we retreated to FATS for a beer, and as luck would have it, mini burgers were on the menu (3 for $2, Bargain!). So it began, after scampering to an early lead, I stalled on 12, Grant was two back on 10, but it was Matt (slow but steady) who was coming home strong, that is until the kitchen closed. So, 1 mini-burger back, Matt would not be outdown and it was agreed that he would be crowned champion by ingesting

Me, Vijay, Ganesh, and Suzanne at the kegger. Yep, I've even had a shave...
a Keith's Honey Brown Ale COASTER. Yep, he ate a coaster. That is the standard of friends that I have made here, pretty much exactly the same as home! (Poodle stop licking that chocolate candle...)

We held a little going away party for Matt over the weekend, a little "kegger" in the backyard. What started out as a quiet gathering disintergrated into boat races and Keg Stands by nights end. Even the random 60 odd year old little man (who no one seemed to know) punched one out to the delight of the crowd.

Anyway, been teaching cricket to Kinesiology students at the uni this week, hoping to catch the Flames opening exhibition game at the Saddledome on Thursday, tix are proving difficult though 😞

Not looking forward to the 8 hour wait in LA, or the 15 hour flight home, but its gotta be done... Am looking forward to a quiet beer or 3 with everyone when I get back though!!!

Cheers,

Abe
