We were supposed to be having an early start today, but having only having had a few hours sleep each, we cancelled our boat ride, and had a small lay in instead.
On our way out of the hotel, we spoke with the girl on reception about the noise last night. Straight away she agreed to move us to another room which would be a business class room with complimentary access to the business lounge with free drinks and snacks included. She also agreed to provide us with a complementary lift to the airport for tomorrow morning. This was good for a ‘starter’ for our complaint.
Then another lady joined the receptionist and took our details. Although we are happy with the extras offered so far, this has derailed our holiday plans a little, as today is our last day in Dubai, so we can’t move the planned activities for today to another day. We requested a meeting with the hotel manager when he returned later in the afternoon. This gave us the morning to plan our strategy etc how we would deliver the complaint.
We were then offered complimentary breakfast for this morning, but declined this as
it was already getting late and we wanted to at least do something, and still had to do the packing this afternoon.
Something that we did not think we would be able to fit in was a visit to Mall of the Emirates. So we decided we would do that this morning.
We headed to the food court first as we had not eaten anything yet. We found a lovely Indian stall selling some great curries. Strange choice for breakfast, but really enjoyed it. Curry for breakfast in Asia is not unusual.
They have a real ski slope here along with chair lifts, a toboggan and lots of other snow attractions. We decided we would not go into the snow area, but it was fun watching it all going on through the viewing windows.
There was a big Carrefour supermarket in the basement, so we took the opportunity to pick up some items that we were running out of.
Before we headed back to the hotel, we had an ice cream from the Marble Slab Creamery. We had an entertainer voucher for a Big Dipper free when we buy one. One cost 25 AED, (about
£5.00) but they were huge. Would definitely try one of these again, but will not need anything to eat for a while now.
We got the metro back to the hotel and let them know that we were back. We agreed that we would now pack up our belongings and they would move us to our new room for the final night.
Later on George went down to talk to the manager, whilst Theresa finished the packing and arranged for the transfer to the new room. The manager agreed that he would not charge us for the previous night. He also offered complimentary breakfast for the following morning, but we are leaving at 6.00am, so a bit too early for that.
A good complaint result we think. Our accommodation bill alone was reduced by £90.00. With the other incentives offered, we have landed on our feet well and truly. More good news was to follow the next day too.
After settling nicely into the new room, we were going to venture back to the bar for a light meal, but decided to call into the club lounge first. As well as the free drinks on offer,
at that moment, they had complimentary hot and cold snacks as well. So no need to go to the bar after all. This will do lovely thanks.
