I swear these are the places where people come to do their exercise... the malls are HUGE....
Well after my 4 weeks in Malawi, I decided to visit Arun in Dubai! I got permission from my boss to take a week off so I flew out of Lilongwe (Malawi) to Nairobi, then Nairobi to Dubai. And thanks to Arun it was a week of pure relaxation and fun. Really.

Dubai is a very interesting city to say the least. A mix of absolute crazy wealth pushing everything to the limit (just name it they'll have it... cuisines of every kind, ski hill, crazy shopping malls, houses on man-made islands, the tallest building on sand, 7 star hotels, etc actually except for soya milk cappuchinos and mochas... never was able to find that... guess no one out there is lactose intolerant....)with the spices and poverty of the thousands of asian immigrants working in Dubai. Actually my favorite part of the city was the spice market and gold souks just because they breathed a bit more real life than the rest of the city, where much is highly superficial. Actually one evening out, I was overhearing this conversation of a couple of guys in their late 20s to early 40s discussing prices and quality of escorts all over the

world. Wow. Needless to say I was a bit disturbed.

I also had the opportunity to do a "desert safari" about 45 min out of the city. People who know me know that I absolutly LOVE the desert. There is something that I find soothing and energizing all at once. I may have to do with the fact that I grew up in Southern California, in a town called Borrego Springs, located in the Anza Desert State Park, and had the opportunity to witness the beauty the desert can display. So yeah, I REALLY loved that part of the trip.

Weather wise, I was there at a good time because it was not too hot (actually a couple evenings were cool enough for me to want to put something over my shoulders). It was humid which suprised me because I was expecting very dry weather.. yeah I sort of forgot it was on the water... the beaches by the way are very nice and extremely clean!. In fact I would say that Dubai is the perfect mix of the beach and the desert. I have always been attracted to the Middle East and I am very happy to have visited at least one small part of the region, and I am looking forward to travelling to that part of the world again.

Here are some pictures of my trip (unfortunately I forgot to bring my camera on a few occasions...)... so first off my arrival, malls, and a night out... ill post the other pictures a bit later (I do have to do some work here...)
