Hong Kong - Dubai March 21st

We checked out of Citygate Novotel at 2pm after a lazy morning spent watching TV and reading, (and writing this blog!) and we caught the hotel bus to the airport. After a quick check in we were on our way through migration and security and on the train to ‘the Pier’ Business Class lounge. Hong Kong Airport is huge, and so many exotic airlines to look at!

The lounge was quite busy as it was afternoon peak time for departures to all over the world. There was a Noodle bar and we had Won-Ton soup and a few beers and some very nice tiny sandwiches. The Wi-Fi connection was so slow so any further updating the blog was put off.

Boarding time came around, and we made our way to the gate, and settled into our seats. The obligatory glass off champagne, and Paul decided to move to the row in front so we could have 2 seats each to ourselves. This aircraft, and Airbus A330-300 was one in Cathay Pacific’s’ regional configuration, hence no First Class (what a shame!) and no sleeper seats, but the meals were very good as

A good Hotel
one would expect, and the service was fine. We both watched a movie during the meal and slept for a good deal of the of the flight. It was interesting to watch the progress of the flight on the map, flying over Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Bangladesh, India, Oman and then into the United Arab Emirates.

Arriving in Dubai, we had a ‘meet and greet’ from the Emirates Towers Hotel, and we were whisked through Customs with our bags, we were driven to the hotel in a brand new Mercedes Benz. Dubai is one continuous construction site 24hrs a day, skyscrapers built on every available piece of land, right up to the shining blue waters of the Arabian Gulf.

This hotel is magnificent, 51 floors of shining Glass and Steel, with an adjacent towers mirroring it, but used as an office building. One of the Front desk staff escorted us to our room on the 37th floor, with magnificent views over Dubai. Our room was stunning, complete with a huge marble bathroom and every conceivable amenity. We were tired, and sank into the huge soft bed and drifted off.
