After completing the packing and eating the cakes purchased last night, we managed to pack everything into the boot of the car and we are on our way to Abu Dhabi. The journey seems a lot quicker this year. Maybe we are understanding the roads a lot better this time.
When we were in Abu Dhabi last year, we stayed at the Southern Sun Hotel, and we are happy to be returning there today. For our travels, it is in a great location and is a great hotel. We are staying here for seven nights this time, rather than the three we did last year. It is a four star hotel.
For the Southern Sun, we are again using one of the Entertainer Travel Book vouchers. This gives us the second night free and then 20% reduction on the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh nights. As you can see, this is a major money saving way of doing things. If we had booked this hotel using our normal booking search engine, the seven nights would have cost us an additional 811 AED about £170.19.
After check-in, we have no time to stop, as we are meeting Theresa´s sister,
Julie, and her partner, Mick. We had an issue with coordinating the dates this year. Today is the only day time meeting with them during our visit to Abu Dhabi that they are going to be able to see us due to work.
Julie and Mick have hired a large speed boat for the afternoon to take us out in. They had packed drink and food for the trip, but by the time we got out, it was too late to eat without spoiling tonight’s lavish dinner we have planned. Julie and Theresa did manage to drink two bottles of bubbly though.
The trip out was great. George got a chance to steer the boat. He was a bit cautious at first, but soon got the hang of it. Theresa got a good chance to catch up with Julie whom we have not seen since we were in Abu Dhabi last year. Quality family time for us.
We stopped off at a deserted sand bank island and had a chance to swim. The water was very warm just like a hot bath. Harvey the dog had the opportunity to stretch his legs and do what a dog
has to do. Harvey is an amazing swimmer. Then it was back onto the boat for a quick ride back to the marina. On way back to the marina, we had a race with two other speed boats.
After a quick wash and change, Julie and Mick met us back at our hotel and we had dinner in the fabulous Foundry restaurant within the hotel. We had two Entertainer vouchers for this which made it substantially lighter on the purse. Four meals and only two paid for.
The Foundry is a high end steak restaurant. We all ordered different cuts of meat and all were delicious. No need for any more alcohol, so we all just drank water and soft drinks. We were served with an interesting free starter with compliments of the chef.
No late night tonight as Julie and Mick have to be up early tomorrow (Sunday) as it is the beginning of the working week here.
