This is going to be a short one due to the frustrations involved in typing on a keyboard with extra letters. In addition I take no responsibility for misspellings or weird letters from here on...
So Turkey has been awesome, so different and comfortable. Food is absolutely delicious with virtually no risk of food borne illness and such a rich culture. We have spent 10 days in Turkey in just 2 cities.
Istanbul-
We arrived after the best flight I have ever taken - Turkish Airlines is great! Public transport to the city center was super cheap and easy, that's always a bonus. What a beautiful place, lovely seaside walks, stunning mosques and plenty of parks. On top of it all, some of the best food to date, döner kebab, caçik, hummus and so on. We have spent about 6 days in Istanbul wandering through the parks, a few tourıst sights and lots of tiny alleys disguised as bazaars. We are traveling during Ramadan and have made it a regular thing to gather with the local Muslim people outside the 'Blue Mosque,' while waiting for the nightly call to prayer to announce that it is time to break the
fast. Really fun to watch. Last night was our last night in Istanbul and we celebrated with a sunset boat ride on the stretch of water, the Bosphorous, that seperates Asia and Europe.
Took a super comfy train rıde to a cıty, from where we took a taxi, to a bus, to yet another taxi to finally arrive in ....
Göreme-
WOW! This town serves as an awesome base for exploring the surrounding area, Cappadocia. This area is known for it's ancıent cave dwellings and cave churches, all built in hollowed out rocks. The landscape itself is stunning, huge rock formations jutting up from the valleys and towns built in their shadows. That would be awesome, but here there is so much more. Not only do you get amazing views of the natural scenery, but you can scramble up the sides of the rocks (or get boosted up to an entrance by your boyfriend) and explore the ancient dwellings. I really can't put ın words how amazing this was. We found a 4 room cave dwelling compete with carved out columns and wall murals - just sitting there waiting for us to explore - awesome. We spent 4
days in Göreme, this is what we did; wake up in a cave, eat breakfast, consult the map, choose a valley, head in that direction armed with lots of water and snacks, explore the chosen valley and climb into any cave on our path, return to the cave, relax and read with a cup of tea, head into town for some tasty food and finally fall asleep in a cave. Perfect!
Anyway it has all been amazing, but the typing is slow and I am pretty much done writing. So enjoy...
Oh and for all of you suckers who are working - we are headed tonight to Athens, Greece and tomorrow we take a ferry to Paros and wıll spend 12 days camping on the beaches of Paros and Naxos.
