Yalvac to Ergidir

Day 9 Monday 4th October 2010 46 miles
We came outside the hotel to find the street full of market traders, as was the rest of the town. For once we had a tail wind and seemed to float along for quite a few miles. We have now entered apple country proper with offers of apples everywhere. Unfortunately I cannot eat apples since they make my mouth covered with ulcers. I was riding with Julia at one time and stopped to take photos so lost her ahead of me. A tractor laden with crates of apples passed me and I decided to have a tow from its slip stream so was travelling at about 20 mph for several miles. That was the last I saw of Julia since she must have pulled in for a chai stop and I missed her. this was a very pleasant journey to Ergidir since it followed the lake (Ergidir Gol) for miles and miles offering very pleasant scenery and even a Stork nest on top of an electricity pylon. The town itself is on teh edge of the lake and the part we stayed in is made up of a series of small islands now joined to the mainland. I made good progress since the wind was in our favour and arrived at 12.40pm. Went into local cafe and had Chorba (soup) with bread. Nice hotel and good fish meal again at night. We saw another old caravanserie, old town walls, fishing boats and teh obligatory statue of Attaturk, who founded the modern democratic secular state of Turkey. Tonight was the first night I needed a blanket so winter must be drawing closer.
