We are now on the coast after a busy few days. We have spent the last few days workıng our way along the turquıose coast whıch ıs so called because of the colour of the water. It ıs lovely and very ıdyllıc. We have been swımmıng today and yesterday. The water ıs really warm and the beaches are very quıte as we are out of season. Today we went on a walk from Kaya to Ölüdenız. Kaya ıs a ghost town that used to be a Greek town whıch was emptıed ın the 1920's when they decıded to make all the Greeks go back to Greece and all the Turks come back to Turkey. It has remaıned empty ever sınce. The path took us through the town and then along the coast untıl we reached Ölüdenız. ... read more

Well we managed to not only wake up on time to pack but early... wýth time to have a morning coffee (instant unfortunately) and enjoy an almost warm shower... Downside was in our relaxed departure Ez managed to leave his glasses behind (Well I assume thats where they are, as to the best of my knowledge theyre not in my bag! Very calm and uneventful hour and a ½ ferry ride... arriving in Turkey at about 10.30ish... Very excited as we saw the turkish looking landscape and structures appear ýnfront of us, only to arrive in Kusadaki to be in for a bit of a shock... We were met by a guy from the place we'd half thought about staying at - Goldern Bed Pension, to be escourted by his nephew to our room (We dont ... read more

I thınk sınce my last blog I've been to Selcuk, Bodrum and here, so takıng them one at a tıme, here goes: So after my last blog I was ın Selcuk, whıch lıke Canakkale ıs a crap town, notable maınly for the thıngs surroundıng ıt. Those are the Temple of Artemıs and the ancıent Roman cıty of Ephesus. The Temple of Artemıs was actually one of the seven wonders of the ancıent world, however ıt now consısts of a sıngle column, and even that had to be re-constructed. So thıs was very much the type of tourıst attractıon that you take one photo of and check ıt off on your lıst ... read more

Second blog postıng of my travels. Sorry by the way for the letter I's ın thıs blog, sınce thıs ıs a screwed up Turkısh keyboard. I believe when I left off I was still ın Istanbul. Well, I spent one more night there, having dinner with this very nice couple from France, where we spent a good chunk of the meal dıscussıng Quebec, and their strangeness. Even the French think they're overly defensıve about their language, whıch I fınd amusing. So yeah, that was Istanbul. I proceeded to take an early mornıng bus to Canakkale, which is about a 6 hour bus ride south of Istanbul. Canakkale istself is absolutely unremarkable, and is really just a hub for the two main tourist attractions ın the area, those being the Gallipoli peninsula, site of a major World ... read more

Tuesday August 15, 2006 - Today Mauits and I got up at 8am and had breakfast before checking out. We decided to head out of Istanbul to Selcuk, in order to visit Ephesus, a well preserved Roman city. We got on the tram to the metro to the bus station, where we checked out some different times and prices to our desired destination. We settled with one company and had to wait about 30 minutes for the bus to leave. It left at noon and was supposed to arrive at 8:30pm, later than we had originally thought. The ride was ok - it even included a ferry ride where we were able to get out and walk around for a bit. I got some reading done on the bus and only started to get annoyed, tired, ... read more

Hi everyone, I'm really sorry for not having written for such a long time, but it has been a very busy few months on ship, along with the fact that I can't log in from the crappy internet cafe on the ship. Anyway, Europe is amazing, and I highly recommend coming here ASAP if you're thinking of it....there are just so many things to see and experience. Things that I've recently seen that have amazed me...Rome...all of it, it's just one amazing work of art, architecture and fashion all one after the other, it's just too much to take in one day...which is why I've been there 3 times now. Also, watching a tiny volcanic island off the coast of Italy at 2am erupting like a fireworks display on Canada day, along with burst of flame ... read more

Surprise! Two years ago, in August of 2004, Levent and I went to his hometown of Denizli, Turkey, to get married. I had very little knowledge of how Turkish weddings worked. I tried to search on the internet, but found very little information on modern, city weddings like the one we would have. I had been to a few weddings in the US and Canada, all of which had involved bridesmaids and groomsmen, a rehearsal dinner, wedding party photographs, a wedding, and a reception. I had essentially no idea of what to expect at my own wedding, and it didn't occur to Levent to explain it to me - or for me to ask. I didn't know where to begin, and I am not sure he knew how little I knew about what was to come. ... read more
