Another early start to catch a bus to Amman. Our tour guide bid us farewell and sent us on our way, minus two people who were not continuing. The journey time was relatively short, but the customs procedures on either side of the border were quite convoluted. A Jordanian man kindly helped us through by translating and pointing us in the right direction. When we arrived in Amman another Jordanian stepped onto the bus and told us to wait for the other passengers to clear off. He was to be our local guide and explained that the group would be split in two as six more people were joining us in Amman. Most of the other passangers had gone, but one Westerner stayed behind. When he spoke up and asked whether the bus was going to the city's main bus station the guide explained that it had been "cancelled" - I guess they do things differently here.
The bus then drove around a corner (literally two minutes away) and we checked in. The group was split up, but the section I was in consisted entirely of the old team. The upshot of this was that I got my own room since the chap I had been sharing with had flown home from Damascus.
We wandered into the city centre, which turned out to be quite some distance away and then took a taxi out to a more modern street filled with restaurants. Having tired of Arabic food we went to Pizza Hut before returning to the hotel to play cards.
