Tuesday March 8, 2011-Jerusalem

The day was sunny but cold and windy. The camera's battery is getting low and our charger is not working.
We started this morning at the Knesset, which is Israel's parliament. We spent most the morning at the Holocaust museum. It is built in a serpent style. You walked around different exhibits and crossed the main aisle. Very moving exhibits with videos and artifacts from the Holocaust. We saw a donation inscription from the Wilf family from New Jersey. They were responsible for a large donation to the museum. I think it is the same Wilf family that owns the Vikings.

We just finished visiting the museum "Shrine of the Book". The museum highlight was the complete scroll of Isaiah. It was one of the scrolls found at the Dead Sea in 1947. They believe the scrolls were written by Essenes in 100 BC. They found twenty scrolls of Isaiah in the caves. No pictures were allowed in the museum We also were able to see a model of the old city Jerusalem. The model helped us see the city much better. We had lunch and the headed to the fields of Bethlehem. We

drove south of the city and were able to stop at an overlook and take pictures of the rolling fields the shepherds were in when Jesus was born.
Our next stop was at the Mt. Olives and the garden of Gethsenmane. The bus dropped us off at the top of the hill and we followed the road down to the garden. The road walking down was busy and many cars heading both ways. We got to the bottom of the road and rounded the corner into the garden. We walked into the garden and sense of peace came upon us. We spent some time looking at the 2,000 year old olive trees. We also shared gospel verses from Luke and visited the Catholic church at the base.

We finished with a visit to the Jerusalem Baptist church and back to the hotel.

Love

We stopped at a hill overlooking the valley and fields of Bethlehem. the city to the right on the hill is Bethlehem. Bethlehem is a West Bank city and our driver and tour guide are Jews and not allowed in.

These are the burial vaults on the east of the Kidron Valley looking at the East wall of the temple mount. It is a great honor to be buried at the East Gate. The east gate is where the messiah will enter again.
