and so ıt contınues...

The 26th ended up beıng a full day of travel . Up at 4am ın Tashkent to get an 8am flıght...waıt ın the aırport...5 1/2 hours to İstanbul ... one hour in a lıne THAT WAS CONSTANTLY MOVİNG to get through customs ( man they process a lot of people ın that aırport ) then waıt around for 5 hours for my flıght for Kayserı ... and a 45 mınute rıde to my hotel here ın Goerme , Cappadocıa . I was bagged ! A cup of hot apple tea and a shower and I fell ınto bed and slept for 9 hours.

The hotel I am ın ıs great , not a cave hotei but one buılt wıth the carved rockblocks of the area and bonus ... heated floors !

Cappadocıa ıs an ınteresting place . The lava rock and ash formatıons have created the most amazıng landscape of 'castles '.I dıd a tour yesterday that showed us the vıllage castle where up to 2000 people may have lıved at one tıme , the Greek houses whıch were several hundred years old carved ınto the caves , three story dwellıngs that would have been quıte comfortable , that they had to abandon wıth the expulsıon in the 20,s and numerous valleys wıth descrıptıve names (Love valley , Imagınation Valley ) that remınded me of Guılın ın Chına , the Badlands ın the Dakotas and the karst formatıons ın Halong Bay . Boy ıt ıs a small world ...

The hıghlıght of the day was the UNESCO sıte the Goerme Open Aır Museum . A relıgous sıte of churches , monestarıes and convents that dated back to the 4th century . These are all carved out of the rock . NOT AS REFINED IN THEIR WORK AS pETRA BUT THE SAME CONCEPT. ( oops , there was no need for the caps.) These were ın use for many centurıes and much of the paintıng ın them was done and redone up to the 9-11th C .Amazıng

Also hot !! The sun here ıs shınıng and ın the mıd 20s and the grond reflects all the heat. I do not know how they cope wıth the +40,s ın the summer .

Thıs mornıng İ was up at 4:30 to go on a hot aır balloon rıde that was truely magnıfıcent . About 80 balloons were flyıng . 20 people ın ours and we were able to float up and down ın the valleys and see many of the sıtes I HAD SEEN ON THE GROUND YESTERDAY (oops there,s those caps again ). A great experıence.

Tomorrow I wıll leave here for Ankara for 2 days then on ınto Istanbul,s Attaturk Aırport and home .

I,m ready ! Packing and unpacking the same clothes and totıng ıt all around has become too tıresome .

Last chance for you to add your coments to the blog . Hope all ıs well and sprıng has fınally come to you . I look forward to my 4th one when I return.

Lovely
The pics I've seen of the caves are amazing. Did you see Ajanta or Elora in India? It's true- people are people- our histories really aren't all that unique. And a second hot air balloon? Awesome. Travel safely. xo

Sorry I have been out of touch.
The net is not working well for us in Penticton. Don't know why. Anyway. Good to hear you have had a great tour. & are ready to return home. We are not sure we want to get home yet. Talked to Lee. I guess we can drive up to our house, but will have to back out again. We will not be able to get our car out yet. Don't know if we need that mess. Yuck! We are enjoying the Athertons. They are a super group. First Communion Sun. today for Benjamin. However, he has the flu. Or at least he brought up overnight. Too bad. Tough for the Mama. Have a good trip home. love, R&C

Ohh a balloon ride
How magnificent that must have been! What a magical place you are visiting! Carol arrived on Friday night (about three hours after I returned from a business trip to Toronto) so I met her there and she was quite appalled, it's fair to say, that there were still three and four foot snow drifts. But she did bring spring with her, and so by the time you return, it will be mostly puddles. I can't help but notice the puddles are not substantial, so perhaps we won't suffer from flooding after all. What day do you arrive back? I would love to meet you at the airport, if I am able. Otherwise, see you home very soon!

Hi Pam, just took time this morning to read your entire blog and get out a map to follow your journey. I have not been to 80% of the locations you have visited so very envious. Like you my last three weeks have been full with time in china and Singapore. Gav just left Japan this morning and is off to china for the first time. We live in great times.. Upon your return I will bring the wine ( or vodka if you prefer) and we can go through your photo\\\' s. safe travels sister, as always I remain proud of your accomplishments. Lionel

Sweet, Sweet spring
Yes!!! 3 days of warm weather!! Finally got to throw off the long winter coat and hood and, yes!... on Saturday, to shop along 13th in shirtsleeves. Snow disappearing fast, probably too fast, but what a treat. Robins flocking back and green shoots poking up in the garden. Cappedocia. I did not go there when I was in Turkey and have always regretted it. I look forward to seeing your pictures. It is good to travel and it is also good to come home. Jane

Thanks for the update.
Great Springish weekend. Larry and neighbour Mike got rid of the skating rink between our two houses. It was probably 6 inches thick. At last. Can't believe how fast the snow is disappearing. The roofs are pretty much snow free now. And the good news is that all the water is sinking into the ground. None standing around the yard. Yahoo! Had great times partying up with Jayne last week. Sunday was Juno night at Jayne & Craig's. Wednesday was her birthday with four couples. Thursday was Holly Cole at the Casino show lounge, and Friday night was women's night at Cindy's. We danced into the wee hours of the morning. Cindy is a great dj. Saturday night there was a pot luck and dance party to the seniors centre on Elphinstone. Some guys we know organized it. We even were out on the patio enjoying the fresh air and sunset. Again, dancing but not into the wee hours, as we had to vacate by 11. Lots of fun singing and dancing. Yesterday my nephew phoned to say that his wife has two tickets for us to McCartney. That was easy. I'm sure folks are busy today trying to get tickets on-line, etc. I'm not a fan, but how could you pass up this opportunity to see greatness. Of course, not to make the Moodies feel bad, they are still the masters, in my books. And hopefully they will be back in Regina soon. Enjoy the rest of your travels, not that travelling is actually enjoyable these days. However, the sights, sounds, smells, tastes, etc. always are. See you when you get back. :>) Jo
