On a generally dull day with several violent showers and some sunny periods we drove along the length of the Lofoten Islands visiting the attractive fishing villages and despite cloud covering the higher peaks realising that it really is a spectacular place. As you travel south the land becomes narrower, the mountains steeply plunging into the fiords and just leaving room for the road and the villages.
We caught the 21.15 ferry from Moskenes which arrived back on the mainland at Bodo at 00.30. This of course was not a problem as it was daylight all the way. On arrival we were able to get on the local campsite even though it was so late.
