Zubiri to Trinidad de ARRE - Larrasoana wild flowers Zubiri to Arre 17.7km (Total 74.9km) Day 6
In Zubiri I noticed my micro towel was missing from the clothes line,
I waited until next morning were I found a lone towel similar to mine blowing in the breeze,
so I took it as a replacement. I firmly believe someone took mine by mistake.
Let’s hope this person will read my blog!!!
It was a glorious clear morning and was busy taking photos of plants, clouds and scenery.
A detour into Zabaldika as pointed out by Brother John was well worth it (
although it cost us getting cought in a very strong and wet storm!!)
We visited a very old Church that was looked after by the ‘Communidad Sagrada de Corazon’
or the Community of the Sacred Heart and the nun’s name was Mary Luz, and she
was waiting for any pilgrim who visited to show the church.
It was worth the detour, the steep climb and getting to know the local
nun and the wonderful work her organisation does.
After our little lunch nibbles we ascended the steep hillside known as Monte Miravalles,
we soon spotted some dark clouds following us and decided to make a

BUT it caught up with us much sooner than we thought, so we put on our
blue "hunch back" ponchos. These worked well until Ron's studs separated and
caused a bit of a whirly stir. We had to go through a freeway road tunnel that was
full of frightened pilgrims. They were waiting for the storm to clear before walking on;
one said ‘gee you are brave’. We were not going to get any drier so we decided
to plough through the "water fall" at the exit of the tunnel.
Not long after, we arrived at a ‘fast flowing river’ going down a steep
section of the trail, this required a lot of concentration and very careful foot
planting as to not slip and do a ‘water rafting number’. After passing a busy
highway we finally arrived at entrance of the town via the wet but beautiful
medieval bridge over the river Ulzama and finally at the end of the bridge we
arrived at Trinidad de Arre to find the Albergue closed and the entrance full of wet,
shivering and weary pilgrims.
The albergue is situated at the back of the Convento de la Trinidad

the 11th Century Convent is ran by catholic brothers who kept the church and
sleeping quarters in immaculate clean condition (two days later Ron found three
insect bites on his back). Arre has had a pilgrim hospital since the 11th century.
The building is situated right next to the old bridge and the river giving the pilgrims
a tranquil and serene atmosphere away from the busy town area.
After the rains cleared, we spent the afternoon shopping and made dinner ourselves of soup,
bread, drinks and sweets sharing with two South African couples (Rob & Barbara, Alan and Marlene).
Both men collect war medals and like hiking. We had lots of laughs and fun.
I also got to meet a couple from Madrid who have walked most of the camino over several years,
walking one to two weeks at a time and seeing the country at the same time.
