Since arriving in Cardiff Wales the night before and "roughing it out" by camping with no bedding or pillows we decided to hit the town. We visited Cardiff Castle which was an amazing day out! We walked around the castle grounds which was in the centre of Cardiff city! We climbed hundreds of stairs to get a great view of the whole of Cardiff! In other words it was a pretty awesome day out!
After the castle we headed across the road to the local tourist shop and Corey bought me a lovespoon and a Wales t shirt which is Welsh says "CYMRU". We walked down the main street and had a look in a few of the shops, where corey banned me on buying anything as Cardiff is meant to be one of the best shopping destinations in Europe!! That night we headed back to the local pub near where we were camping where yes Corey ate MORE pie!
The next day (Wednesday) we decided to take a day out of travelling and rest up and get some washing done. As I had bought a new book I spent the day reading that whilst corey complained the whole
time as I wasnt paying him any attention - i think he was bored! LOL Corey decided he would go for a walk and came back with lunch from the "special sausage roll shop" which he did not want to tell me where it was so it would annoy me! That night we went back to the local pub where yes...... corey ate pie!
On Thursday we headed to St Fagans just out of Cardiff where there was the Welsh Life Museum. We spent half the day there walking around the gardens and learning about the welsh way of life back in the day (which was very similar to Australia) It reminded us of the Oaks Heritage Centre but 20 times bigger. That afternoon we decided it would be fun to do a Hop on Hop off tour of Cardiff. It was quite enjoyable seeing parts of cardiff on the outskirts of town that we never knew about. Once back in the centre of town we went to O'Neills pub - an Irish pub! Corey had the local Cardiff beer called Brains Beer which he said was good and followed that up with once again another pie.
As
Friday crept up quickly we thought it would be good to catch the hop on hop off bus (as ticket valid for 24hrs) around to Cardiff Bay and Mermaid Quay but someone... corey... said he left the tickets back in the tent which was a 10-15 min walk back, so we decided just to catch the normal bus to Cardiff bay. Once on the bus after a 1.5hr trip instead of the 20 minute bus trip as we hopped on the bus which went the complete opposite and long way round we finally made it to Cardiff Bay! It was a rainy and miserable day so we walked along the peer quickly so we didnt get too drenched. We went to an italian place for lunch where we had our first FOLDED pizza - they fold this pizza so it looks like Napoleons trousers or something like that... weird but tasty! We had a browse in the local and famous "craft in the Bay" which displays (and also for sale but quite pricey) local artists work from ceramics to artwork to jewellery. We then headed back home with a quick stop into sainsburys (the supermarket) for a microwave dinner. (which
was horrible!) and a few drinks whilst we chilled for the rest of the night playing different fun card games.
Saturday - it was time to say goodbye to cardiff as we hopped on the train to Reading. After a 2 hour trip we finally arrived and made our way to our hotel (YES no camping!!) Once we got there most of the day had gone so we chilled out in the hotel room and then neaded back into town to purchase some really cheap clothes from Primark (similar to target but cheaper) for the Reading music festival the following day! Emily purchased some wellies (gumboots) and cut them so they were ankle ones! We then headed back to the hotel for a long needed snooze!!
Check out the next blog for what we get up to at the Reading Music Festival!!!
