We drove through Kirkwall to the far east of Mainland Orkney and the area of Deerness. There we walked to Mull Head via the Brough of Deerness, a promontory which is almost an island and had quite an awkward access.
Most of the villages in the Northern Isles seem to have a modern community centre. The one at Deerness provided us with an excellent stopover with power, use of the centre and perhaps best of all, free wifi.
