The weather was still cloudy but dry and as Wendy had not seen the sea stacks at Yesnaby we decided to return there. This was well worth doing as we walked up onto the next headland which afforded different views of them and we also found a remarkable twin arched blow hole.

At the far north west corner of mainland Orkney there is a small island called Brough of Birsay which is accessible at low tide via a causeway. We had a pleasant late afternoon walk in increasingly sunny weather around it’s coast and saw many sea birds including some more puffins.

We found a delightful place to spend the night at the carpark adjacent to the pretty Sands of Evie which gave wonderful views over the nearby island of Rousay.
