After 120 km trekking on the Hadrian’s wall, we headed North West, to Scotland.
Before a trip, I always study the history, I gather information of places and I plan the route in search of the past because it triggers my imagination. In Scotlands were the Picts and Gaels, Celtic-speaking peoples, who founded the Kingdom of Scotland (or Alba) in the 9th century, the knights, kings and warriors that inhabited the Highland and built many castles.
We rented a car in Carlisle, picked up our friend from the Edinburgh and drove through Glen Coe (Glen Valley) to the Highlands. I am lucky that my boyfriend always trusts me as a tour guide, whilst he enjoys driving.
We spent our first night in Kinlochleven. It had a superb view to the lake, a nice and friendly pub, but it was only overshadowed by the the blood-sucking midges.
There are more than 1500 castles in Scotland. Many lie in ruins while many others continue to be used as homes, as hotels or museums. We visited a dozen all over the country.
The highlight of Scotland were the “Highland Games”. Unknown to us, we were lucky to drove by the Lonach Games in Bellabeg, 42 miles from Aberdeen, and see a bagpipe band, of It is as a way of celebrating Scottish and Celtic culture. They usually comprise a programme of field and track events, piping and Highland dancing competitions.

Después de 120 km de trekking sobre el muro de Adriano, nos dirigimos al noroeste, a Escocia.
Antes de un viaje siempre estudio la historia, reúno información de lugares y planifico la ruta en busca del pasado porque eso dispara mi imaginación. En Escocia estaban los pictos y los gaélicos, pueblos de habla celta, que fundaron el Reino de Escocia (o Alba) en el siglo IX, los caballeros, reyes y guerreros que habitaron las Tierras Altas y construyeron numerosos castillos.
Alquilamos un auto en Carlisle, recogimos a nuestra amiga en Edimburgo y condujimos a través de Glen Coe (Glen Valley) hasta Highlands. Tengo la suerte de que mi novio siempre confía en mí como guía turístico, mientras disfruta conduciendo.
Pasamos nuestra primera noche en Kinlochleven. Tenía una magnífica vista al lago, un pub agradable y amigable, pero solo estaba eclipsado por los mosquitos chupadores de sangre.
Hay más de 1500 castillos en Escocia. Muchos yacen en ruinas, mientras que muchos otros continúan siendo utilizados como viviendas, hoteles o museos. Visitamos una docena en todo el país.
Lo más destacado de Escocia fueron los “Highlands Games”. Desconocido para nosotros, tuvimos la suerte de pasar por los Juegos de Lonach en Bellabeg, a 42 millas de Aberdeen, y ver una banda de gaitas, como una forma de celebrar la cultura escocesa y celta. Por lo general, comprenden un programa de eventos de campo y pista, gaitas y concursos de baile de las Tierras Altas.
