So Josh came to visit in March for break. I picked him up from the airport (complete with a vaguely insulting sign and soppy hugs) and brought him home, where he proceeded to collapse and sleep. Which was good for him, but boring for me because he got here on my friend’s birthday and we had plans to play board games all day. Which we did, but I had assured everyone I know that my little brother was both real and super into board games. So his sleeping delayed my ability to prove that I actually had family. Anyway, the minute he was awake and functional, I threw him at my friends and demanded that they all get along. In hindsight, that was probably a mite intimidating. Oops. He dealt with it rather well. He even ... read more

I am currently sitting on a plane, desperately and painfully trying to pressurize my left ear. It makes a squeaking noise before painful remaining at the same painful pressure level. It’s aggravating, but hopefully not fatal. I’ll keep you updated. Yeah, it has done nothing. Several hours, one airport, a taxi ride, and an unfortunate reunion later, it still hurts. I’m deaf in one ear. Oh great. Three days. Limited change. I’m going to the doctor. I was prescribed some antibiotics and I’m on the mend now. That was hell. So this blog has been weeks in the making, and I have many decent stories to tell. I mean, not right now, because I have an essay due in two days and this is just procrastination, but you won’t really know. I have another essay due ... read more

Geo: 55.9503, -3.18761Today we decided to go for a visit to Holyrood Palace which is located on the bottom of the Royal Mile, so we set off downhill passing many amazing scenes along the way. We bought our tickets and entered the palace, unfortunately you cannot take photos inside, so could only take a few of the areas outside. The Palace was huge, lots of huge painting on the walls and alot of history,it's amazing to think this is where the Queen and her family come and stay when they are in Edinburgh. After leaving the building, we went and saw the ruins from a fire many years ago. Outside the sun was shining, and on the lawns within the Palace gardens, there were squirrels running around munching on the grass! We finished on our tour ... read more

Geo: 55.9503, -3.18761We had a little sleep in and had some breakfast then headed up to the Edinburgh Castle, passing many shops along the way, which we visited! One shop close to the Castle was a tartan/ weaving shop which was very interesting to see how tartan is made. This shop had a dress up area where they take your photos so keeping this in mind, we then headed to the Castle. We arrived about 12.15pm and we went to the cafe to have a cup of tea, scone with jam and clotted cream, because we had to try it! 1pm was the firing of the cannon so we waited, we all jumped with the noise!!We continued through the rooms and buildings then we headed downtown to do some shopping. We split up to go and see ... read more

And so begins my final blog entry from Scotland, as well as my first entry for 2014! Happy New Year to you all! I got to experience 2014 five or six hours before most of you, just sayin'... It has been enjoyable to stay in David's apartment for nearly 8 days now. Not only does this save me vast amounts of money, but it gives me access to a kitchen (I have been cooking deluxe meals each night) and enables us to take midday breaks from adventures and not worry about leaving our possessions strewn about. Our most recent days have been very relaxed, especially when you compare them to our first several days where we toured Edinburgh Castle, climbed Arthur's seat and Calton Hill, and went into the highlands in search of hairy coos. Since ... read more

Having been in Edinburgh four full days now, I've been able to see and do quite a few things. On Thursday, we climbed Arthur's Seat - a large hill on the edge of town that offers a spectacular view of all of Edinburgh. The day was perfect for such a climb: nary a cloud in the sky, bright sunshine, and very little wind (for Scotland, that is). On the walk back to David's apartment, we passed through Calton Hill, a large hill in the city centre with several Greek-inspired monuments atop it. These monuments, in part, help earn Edinburgh its nickname "The Athens of the North". The serendipitous find for the day was walking past a gated graveyard and finding the gate ajar, thereby signalling us to enter, obviously. Most of the headstones were from the ... read more

You remember the part of the movie Home Alone where the mom is trying to get back home to her son on Christmas Eve and it's next to impossible because transportation is booked or unavailable? Well her journey sounds nice to my fiasco yesterday. I got to Dublin Airport well before my flight, cleared security with no problem, and was sitting at the gate waiting. The flight was to board at 9:45. Well, it was delayed. We finally boarded near noon. Apparently, Ireland and the UK were on the edge of a storm and very high winds were making for difficult flying. The plane on which I was to fly was pretty small: two propellors and maybe capacity for 50 passengers. Our takeoff was successful, albeit unnerving. The wind would batter the plane, causing it to ... read more

First off, I recognize that I have been woefully absent from the interwebs, but that simply means that I am getting down to business (to defeat the huns ) and doing school stuff. Plus I’ve been very sick. Like, brink of collapse sick. It’s all very dramatic. True to my medical upbringing, I have refused to go get medical attention despite clearing needing some. This is partially because I was pretty sure I’d recover without seeing a doctor but also because I have no idea how to see a doctor here. But mostly the recovery thing. Anyway, I’m alive and very busy. It has been a long time, and lots of things have happened. I was a ghost buster for Halloween, which was good fun. My friends/fellow busters and I went to Teviot, the student-run bar/meeting ... read more

Today we had tickets for the morning session watching the Gymnastics at the SECC. Before we went in Mum and Dad has a look through the Commonwealth games ‘What to do in Glasgow’ guide for today and BBC@thequay which was near by looked great so we all decided to head over the Gymnastics. So the Gymnastics was great amazing what they can do! Getting out of the arena was busy but we easily found our way via some great looking BBC@thequay signs to the Bells Bridge. On the south side of the Clyde we walked alone the riverbank toward the Glasgow tower, soon coming to an amazing looking bike hire place were you could pick up a map and discover a bit more of Glasgow via the local National Cycle Networks. Turns out Glasgow are making ... read more

Hello again, it’s been a while. So, what have you missed you ask? Well, lemme tell you. My health is much the same; I’m beginning to accept my cough as a permanent part of me. I wrote a book (not really) called How to Shorten Your Life by Ten Years in Less Than Two Days: A Guide For Young Adults; I wrote 4000 words in 30 hours. Never. Ever. Ever. Again. Seriously guys, don’t ever leave two major papers until the last minute if you value your youth. I completed these by Thanksgiving and I’ve been walking on air since then. Speaking of Thanksgiving, my totally awesome and lovely friends knew A. how stressed I was and B. how bummed I was to be missing Thanksgiving and they decided to cheer me up by getting me ... read more
