Spring break was a welcomed break as I hadnt seen my husband for a few months-while he works in England and I stay in Florida pursuing another degree.
So, it was a no brainer that I would fly to England to visit him and check out the UK and Scotland while there. This blog will be short as I am writing it many months after the fact. I wanted to post some of the photos for my family that doesn't use facebook so they could catch up on my journeys. 😊
Our trip to Scotland was almost cancelled as we waited to the last minute to get our train tickets and they were a lot more expensive then we were anticipating. We decided to make it a road trip with a stop in York, England (The IBIS hotel their is great), a gas up at the base near there, then onto Edinburgh for a few days to experience a hostel, Caledonian Backpackers Hostel.
The drive was loong. York was great! The shambles were a sight to see as well as the wall and ruins. (More photos will be added once I get access to my hard drive)
Strongbow in a 2 Liter?
Thats the way you do it! View out the window of the Ibis Hotel in York Edinburgh, was great. An amazing city with lots to see including shops and of course the Edinburgh Castle. We were very suprised with the amount of buses and construction and one way streets which confused the h*$l out of our GPS. I guess they are working on a tram in the city so that will be cool! (Correct me if Im wrong.) We stayed at Caledonian Backpackers Hostel.
http://caledonianbackpackers.com/. Such a wonderfully colorful clean hostel. They are well equipped so you could stay there for a long time and still be comfortable. Don't forget your shower sandals. Towels are available at an additional cost or bring your own. We initially stayed in a mixed dorm with 4 beds and met a nice Aussie who was traveling Europe for 6 months. Unfortunately we were on the street side and between Nicks snoring, street cleaning, and garbage removal trucks, I had a horrible nights sleep. They were more then willing to move us to a different room off the street. This was also a 4 bed room but we were the only two in it for the next few days. A perk for traveling and staying mid-week.
While in Edinburgh we
Edinburgh Castle
Edinburgh Scotland walked around most everywhere. I recommend good walking shoes! Also, the weather is wet and unpredictable, especially this time of year so bring an umbrella or rain coat or wellies. The castle was a great tour aside from the chilly strong winds. Here is their website if you would like more information.
http://www.edinburghcastle.gov.uk/ The initial site dates back to around 600 AD and more was built around 1100 AD. They have a great collection and I have some great photos but can't add those till later.
We found a unique gothic restaurant called Jekyll and Hyde. Check out this website for other great photos including the bookshelf wall where you have to feel around for the bathroom doors. Great food and decor!
