George Herriot School
kind of a side view, with the lawn. this is probably the best you'll get, i wasn't even suppose to be where i was standing. i just pretended i didn't see the "Don't Proceed This Point" signs. :) Alrighty I've got four really cool things to tell you about today so hold onto your seats.
1) The first thing we did today *drumroll please* was we visited The Elephant House Cafe, where JK ROWLING SAT AND WROTE PARTS OF THE FIRST HARRY POTTER BOOK!!!!!!! yeah! i think it's where she thought of the idea, too! its just SO COOL! and i sat there and wrote y'all postcards! from that cafe! ahh i can't get over it! and wait, there's more...
2) The second thing we did, also Harry Potter related, was we looked at the outside of the George Harriot School for the Deaf. That's the building that JK Rowling based Hogwarts on, in the very beginning. It looks nothing like the castle in the movie, in fact it's hardly a castle. It's not even that big. But it was still AWESOME to stand where JK Rowling probably stood and look up at her inspiration for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Ok I sound like the biggest dork right now, I realize that. I bet Morgan appreciates this, don't cha Morgan?? 😊
3) This was my mom's favorite thing that we did. Ok so
The Elephant House Cafe
me writing a postcard to Morgan! *squeak of excitement* there's this dog statue beside Greyfriars Bobby Pub. There's a church (known as a 'kirk' here. that's what they call churches) behind it with a cemetery. This dog, the one in the statue, went to his master's grave EVERY DAY for fourteen years and sat there, mourning. fourteen years! every day! he would go back to the pub for food, and probably during nasty weather, but that was probably the most loyal dog i've ever heard of. So we visited that 'kirk' and the grave and the dog's grave and the pub and the statue. Check the pictures.
4) We all really enjoyed this. After dinner, we took a tour of Mary King's Close. A 'close' is kind of like an alleyway with houses lining it. But they built over the close in the mid-1700's and most everyone forgot about it. It was recently rediscovered and furnished for the public to visit. Only certain parts of it are stable, though, and those are the parts we toured. It was really great! We took a staircase underground and it smelled really bad which I expected because they didn't have plumming back then, they just threw all their sewage into the

caroline writing a letter to aimee! streets. (GROSSSS!!!) So, it smelled but it was awesome to walk where people walked in the 1600's and everything. Life was very ghastly back then, be thankful. I know I am. Unfortunetley we weren't allowed to take pictures under there. So I guess y'all will just have to come to Edinburgh yourselves to see it. Sorry!
So, that was our second day here in Edinburgh! Oh, and does anyone have Kelsey Williams' address or Katherine Ash's address? Could they please message them to us? Many thanks!
