Kemnay performance
Kemnay community learning to play the steelpan We had breakfast from 7-9 AM this day. Salmon left at 8:30 for a directors meeting as the festival decided who is playing for the finale tomorrow and what to play. The rest of us had a free morning, did laundry, etc. we then went to the hub for a hot lunch and after lunch we left at 1PM to head for Kemnay. WE all got the Kemnay in time for our technical rehearsal at 2 PM. We all put our uniforms in the green room in which time we learned that the truck carrying our pans had a flat tire on route which delayed everything by 2 1/2 hours. Jack, our tour guide, spoke to the owner of the local fish and chips restaurant and he agreed that if we bought Mars bars at the local convenience store, he would deep fry them for us. He had never done them before but he was willing to give it a go. Learning to play the pan to the local park in the mean time where everyone had lots of fun. Fitzroy purchased a soccer ball so everyone played soccer. After the impromptu free time we then made our way back to the venue where the trucked awaits us. It was a small venue and we learned that they sold out all 100 seats. Actually, Kemnay only has 1500 residence and its known for their granite. We had a delicious hot dinner prepared by the woman from the community and dessert. It was Jacks birthday so the chaperones bought a cake and we all sung happy birthday for him. It was a teary moment as he was not expecting it. We then started the performance when Salmon decided to do an impromptu workshop. This concert was not shared so we had to carry both halves musically which we were prepared for. It was an engaging audience and we had lots of fun. Jack is studying music at Aberdeen and his instrument is the violin so he joined us for 2 of the numbers in our set; Viva la vida and In the Mood. the audience also sang happy birthday for him. Our chaperones did a fantastic job
selling T-shirts and CDs at this venue.
