Thanks... ...to all who made our leaving party at the 'Old Library' on Friday... Despite running slightly late, it proved to be a fantastic night & we both hope all who attended enjoyed it as much as we did. Big thanks to my brother (Tom) & his motley crew of chefs who cooked some delicious food, my mom who financed the food & worked her culinary magic (you really excelled yourself this time Susan), my auntie Melanie who made the fruit platters, Dennis who provided the PA system & a legendary performance (despite having had key hole surgery on his knee the day before), Mr 'H' for helping us with some of the costs, "Kimbaljit" for buying the decorations & helping to decorate the room, 'Matt D' & his amazing side-kick Josh for spinning some "Tunes", ... read more

Beginning the countdown now and what better time to do it than when you've spent the morning getting vaccinated and debating the merits of getting a private prescription for the "always fatal" rabies. Still cheaper than the last vet bill for the lads but then I should have expected that after their life insurance cost more than mine! At least I know where I stand in the grand scheme of things. Return journey from Acocks Green to Hall Green swift and uneventful. Made a point of savouring the smallness and ease of it all compared to the epic journeys ahead.... read more

OK, it's starting to feel like that week before Christmas when the excitement is bubbling under the surface but it still seems like there is so much to do... We've both got another 5 days at work. (For me that equates to about 40 hours, 30 'klix' black coffees, 10 laboreous bus rides and about 150 muttered expletives.) No matter how much I read and look at photos, I can't imagine what awaits us when we arrive. This adds to combined feeling of excitement and panic. This time next week we will be wearily finding our feet in Lima, beers in hand, celebrating the beginnings of our trip. Can't wait!
