With my job I travel a lot around the UK, don't panic I won't bang on about to my job! The perk is though I get to visit a lot of places that I wouldnt necessarily of gone to. Having lived in the UK all my live I forgot how blessed we are in this country to have so many places to go and see right on our doorstep!
One of my surprising trips I had was to visit Newcastle/Gateshead, I have never been and didn't think I would want to! How wrong was I! I loved every moment, the people are so friendly and chatty, there is loads to do and see in the city and outside.
One of the best parts is hearing the newcastle accent, I try and do it but it doesn't work out it sounds like I am a dodgy character from Byker Grove!
My first visit here I planned to see the angel of North, I expected it to be towering above the city and be able to see it from miles away. This isn't the case it's tucked away and you can see it as you drive towards the area it
is in. There is a small car park nearby, it is worth seeing but only really on the way to somewhere else or on the way back as there isn't that much to do, there is an information board that tells you about the construction and you can walk around the angel. When stood next to it, it is impressive and the wing span is incredible! It is well worth the stop.
If you like shopping you won't be disappointed there are plenty of shops in the centre and in the massive Metrocentre just outside the centre. This is easily accessible by bus or car. If you have a adult day ticket to use on the metro you can also use this on the bus to the Metrocentre.
There is so much architecture to see in the city. One of which is the Byker wall. it is literally a massive wall, but within it is maisonette flats, it was designed and built in the 1970s. When I saw it I was a bit like what is this how is this famous? The taxi driver on the way to the airport assured me it was very famous and you
can see it from space! On conversation with locals it is a bit of an area to avoid but let's not be too judgemental!
The quayside is another area to check out there are plenty of bridges with a swing bridge to let ships through and the more glamorous Gateshead millennium bridge. This bridge is the most recent and is on a pound coin, when large ships come through it lifts up into an arch, very impressive! It's a very unique and looks great!
If you watch Gordie Shore and hate it please don't be put off its a great city to visit. It is easy to get to by flying from southwest/London. If you book in advance you can get some really cheap flights with easy jet. From or to the airport to the centre you can easily get a taxi or get the metro.
I have been back several times and on my next visit I hope to see greys monument and the surronding area.
