There is a huge National Trust property called Ickworth in Horringer, outskirts of Bury St Edmunds. There are several attractions in the property e.g. 18th century manor house, Italian Garden, woodland walks, and Country Park. The East Wing of the manor house was used as the Harvey family’s holiday accommodation for a long time; however, the 7th Earl of Bristol has recently left Ickworth due to the financial problems. The East Wing Building has been converted to the upper class hotel which has been used by the celebrities or the wealthy people.
Ickworth Manor House standing on the centre of the property was designed by the 4th Earl of Bristol who copied the design from the building that he had seen In Ireland. Setting the Rotunda with 40 metre height as a centre, there are east and west wing buildings. The Earl of Bristol’s collected scores of landscape paintings and portraits drawn by the famous painters, e.g. Titian, Gainsborough, Reynolds, and Hogarth. The highlights of art collections included silver crafted items and Regency furniture and ceramics.
The property possesses beautiful Italian style garden decorated with geometric patterned hedges, cast iron benches, and parterre gardens, and planted with Pyrenean pines and Mediterranean evergreen plants. Daffodils, hyacinth, tulips, and blue bells bloom in spring, and roses blossom in the trellis and arches, and pots of agapanthus flower in summer.
Furthermore, there are several walking courses which would go through idyllic countryside, meadows, brook, and woodlands, and walkers can perceive the sense of wildlife.
