This weekend was one of the most spontaneous and wonderful weekends I've ever had. Every single aspect of the trip was an adventure and it was fabulous. I think I've officially fallen in love with England. I'll start from the beginning.
Friday night, Alyse, Sabrina and I sat down to buy our train tickets to Bath and found the tickets had skyrocketed to 50 pounds and none of us wanted to pay that. We searched for probably 2 hours for alternate routes and alternate destinations that would be cheaper. After a couple hours we were exhausted and decided to just buy a one-way ticket to Bath in the morning and go from there. We didn't know if we'd come back the next night or stay over but we decided we had a ticket and we'd go from there.
Saturday morning we met in the lounge at 8:20 each with a toothbrush and a change of shirt for the next day and we were off. We got into Bath around 1 and headed through town looking for a place to have lunch and plan our adventure in Bath.
We had lunch in this cute little Bistro called the Bathtub Bistro and I
had "Bubble and Squeaks" which was basically sausage and weird somewhat mashed potatos with gravy on top. The sausage was made locally...so all the livestock we passed on the way in yummmmy.
We talked about the most important things we wanted to do and decided the natural spa was pretty much a must. So we headed into the town center, walked into a tourist office and asked if we could get a room for the night somewhere nearby. The lady said there was one room available in a B&B a mile outside of town for the price we could afford and we said "ok, book it". We then went to the spa and asked about times and whatnot and naive us figured they would just supply bathing suits or SOMETHING to soak in the spa in. Of course they didn't. So they said as long as we were covered, we were fine. This led us on the most insane bathing suit search in the middle of England because everyone swims in the middle of England in October. Not. We ended up at Gap in the boxer section. We had tanktop and boxer outfits. Funny enough, we told our story to
the lady at the checkout and she said "oh well we have a bin of bathing suits" (this is after probably 10 stores). We looked like maniacs digging through this bin of bathing suits from 2 seasons ago and I was the only one with any luck in one of the pieces of a bathing suit.
After buying our boxers and tanktops we decided we should probably do something touristy in Bath so we went to the Roman Baths. Pretty much the reason Bath exists (duh).
We toured the Bath's and felt the water. They were neat to see and learn the story of the baths from Roman times through to English history.
From the baths we got coffee and made our way to the Spa. We had two hours to spend time in a rooftop naturally heated pool, 4 steam rooms with different scents such as lavender, eucalyptus...those are the only two I remember because those are the two we spent time in. And then finally there was pool on the bottom floor. We went up on the rooftop and it was dusk and it looked out over the entire city and Bath Abbey. It was amazing. We split
our time between floating around on blue noodles in the natural spring water to sitting in the steam rooms and soaking our feet in the foot baths. It was rough. It was really hard to leave.
So we got out of the Spa with one minute to spare without being charged for staying late and were starving. We went to the supermarket, bought two bottles of wine, a bag of doritos, and cadbury chocolate cakes and then headed across the street to pizza hut. By the way, the entire day, I'm pretty sure none of us stopped laughing at how many spontaneous and fabulous things we were doing. The line was super long so we busted out the bag of chips and literally ate an entire bag of doritos waiting for us to be seated. It was almost 9 at night...who eats at that time anyway. When finally sat, we ordered salad with the most disgusting salad dressing i've ever tasted and pizza. When we finally got our pizza we passed around the red pepper flakes. I took off the cap and put some on my pizza and then handed it to Alyse and as she went to put some
Spa fun
I'm wearing a bathing suit, i promise on her pizza, the lid came off and spicy red pepper flakes went all over her pizza. Hilarious.
Our last stop of the day was the random bed and breakfast we had booked without knowing anything about it. We got a taxi and showed up at this adorable house with a really cute garden (phew). The house was three stories high and we were in the top room. We were literally jumping up and down and clapping we were so happy. We cracked open the wine and ate some chocolate and Sabrina and Alyse had a monkey making face contest...the normal things people do in nice bed and breakfasts. My abs hurt so bad today from laughing.
It was a fabulous day and I can't even imagine how everything turned out so perfectly. This is getting so long day 2 will be a story on its own.
