PS to yesterday's blog:

Day's Lock hosts the World 'Poohsticks' Championships every March

Since the confluence with the R. Thame, some sources state that we are now on the Isis, rather than the Thames.

The dykes mentioned are named The Dyke Hills.

An alfresco meal on the stern of the boat and a superb sunset last night. We set off very early this morning in bright sunshine after a last minute arrangement to meet Matthew, Clair and Naomi in Abingdon by 11.00am. This meant going through the first lock before the lock keeper started work and this is very straightforward.......provided all the lock electrics are functioning properly. They weren't, so we lost 45 minutes and really had to steam after that. We were determined not to miss the toilet pumpout at Abingdon – we'd been assured it was available and that the natives were friendly so we looked on Google Earth to locate the exact position, then used Street View from Abingdon Bridge to check on moorings. Well the natives were friendly and Abingdon does indeed welcome passing boaters and is a delightful town. We moored by the Abbey Meadows, where there's an outdoor heated pool (I wasn't as desperate for a shower as I thought), children's play area and loads of grass. Also a fun event for families. We all had a good day (lovely lunch and then ice creams) but then we realised that the evening entertainment was a concert, rounding off at 11pm with a grand fireworks display....... time to move on we thought, we'll find somewhere else. Well we did but two hours later – less motoring tomorrow though.

I didn't have time to fully explore Abingdon as we prefered spending the day with our family but there is a great deal more history to the place and my pictures only just touched on what the town offers.

Missed photo opportunity– as we neared the mooring this evening, a kingfisher sitting on a small branch just above the water, his colours picked out by the evening sun.

Summer is here!
Morning Helen, morning John Thank you for your further updates and great pictures, we are also pleased you were able to 'pump out' although probably not the best comment to read while having breakfast! Abingdon sounds lovely and now it is on our list to visit, each year we do say we should take a few drives out and perhaps an overnight stop somewhere, your blogs have now stirred us into action, so I will definitely be planning a few away days/nights during the summer months. Have another adventurous day, looking forward to more news soon x
